The Senior Staff Speech Language Pathologist III (Sr SLP III), reports to the Clinical Supervisor/Manager, and provides both direct and indirect patient care services. The Sr SLP III works primarily with adult and geriatric patients from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds, although pediatric and adolescent patients may also be treated. The Sr SLP III demonstrates a solid knowledge base within a wide range of diagnoses including general medicine, orthopedics, neurology, and cardiopulmonary in the adult and/or pediatric setting. Under general supervision and within a specific therapy discipline, the Sr SLP III independently performs complex patient evaluations and therapeutic interventions; serves as a mentor to staff and consultant to other medical professionals in patient evaluations, therapeutic intervention planning or therapeutic intervention requiring discipline specific skills. The Sr SLP III makes recommendations in patient care procedures, protocols or programs related to the discipline specific areas, and instructs therapists and other medical professionals in the theory, application and/or performance of discipline specific skills. While performing job duties, the Sr SLP III may also supervise support personnel as allowed by discipline specific State Practice Acts including Rehabilitation Aides as well as SLP students, or SLP Clinical Fellows. The Sr SLP III actively participates in departmental and organizational programs, including performance improvement activities, clinical education programs, and in-services and staff development activities.
