JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision of the Ambulatory Patient Care Manager, and guided by the policies and procedures of UCSF Medical Center, Ambulatory Services, and the Department of Pediatric Surgical Specialties, the Medical Assistant III assists in the delivery of care to patients in Pediatric Specialties ambulatory group practices at Mission Bay. Work includes performing and assisting with a variety of clinical procedures, reviewing patient’s medications and communicating health care maintenance reminders to assure positive care outcomes. S/he will perform assigned patient care and laboratory procedures in support of the specialty care services provided to patients within the practices. S/he is required to learn, have flexibility in working at all UCSF sites, assist in any of the departments that fall under the purview of Pediatric Surgical Specialties, and flexibility in floating to Pediatric Medical Specialties when census and staffing allows. As a per diem, Medical Assistant must be available for a minimum of 4 shifts per month.

Willingness to float between various specialties within Pediatric Specialties, including floating to Pediatric Medical Specialties and various satellite clinics when needed
Certification from an approved Medical Assistant program; or equivalent combination of training and experience
Demonstrated ability to provide appropriate care based on the needs of a specific individual, including the patient’s age.
The ability to work with intermittent standing and sitting for 8-10 hours/day.
Good communication and organizational skills, professionalism, and motivation.
Knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to this position.
Under the direction of the Ambulatory Patient Care Manager, actively works towards Joint Commission compliance.
Demonstrated experience in responding to a patient emergency.
6 months of experience as a Hospital Assistant in a medical practice.

Bilingual or multi-lingual capability
National Certification as Medical Assistant from recognized program: NCCT, AAMA, CCBMA, or AMT
Candidates with previous experience in Cadence Scheduling, Registration, and working with Electronic Health Records (e.g., EPIC)
Candidates with two or more years of Medical Assistant experience
