Job Description

The Staff Speech Language Pathologist, the Speech Pathologist II, reports to the Clinical Supervisor, Speech Language Pathology and provides both direct and indirect patient care services. The Staff Speech Language Pathologist II works primarily with adult and geriatric patients from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds, although pediatric and adolescent patients may also be treated. Under general direction and upon receipt of written referrals, the Staff Speech Language Pathologist II plans and administers a full range of speech therapy services for patients with a variety of physical and cognitive impairments and disabilities. Services include patient evaluations using speech language pathology tests and measurements, establishment of therapeutic intervention goals and development of therapeutic intervention programs, and implementation of therapeutic intervention plans utilizing all aspects of the speech language pathology scope of practice. The Staff Speech Pathologist maintains all applicable patient records related to the delivery of patient care services. While performing job duties, the Staff Speech Language Pathologist II may also supervise support personnel, Rehabilitation Aides as well as student interns and Speech Language Pathology Clinical Fellows. The Staff Speech Language Pathologist II actively participates in departmental and organizational programs, including performance improvement activities, clinical education programs, and inservices and staff development activities.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 12 months experience as a licensed therapist.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to recognize signs of distress.
  • Possession of or proven eligibility for CPR certification.
  • Basic computer skills in word processing and on line communication.
  • Possession of good interpersonal, time management, problem solving and self-initiation skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior speech language pathology experience in an academic medical center environment.
  • Prior experience working on an interdisciplinary health provider team.
  • Possession of a degree in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited professional educational program.

REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATION

  • Possession of or proven eligibility for licensure as a Speech Language Pathologist by the Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Board of California.
