Summary:
Responsible for the maintenance and updating of policies, procedures, and equipment related to Specimen processing. Coordinates outreach activities by working with various accounts and departments throughout the hospital, performing in-services, and contacting potential customers. Responsible for reviewing and processing laboratory charges. Work as a phlebotomy technician when needed.
Responsibilities:
1. Processes specimens from referral accounts effectively, and distributes them appropriately.
2. Centrifuges and/or stores specimens in compliance with procedure.
3. Resolves problems or errors with samples.
4. Refers samples to reference lab via Computer interface.
5. Refers LMO samples to reference lab.
6. Reconciles ‘Pending Collections’ for Out Reach unreceived Specimens.
7. Uses LIS to enter lab orders with no more than 1 serious error per year.
8. Performs or verifies Medical Necessity checking for appropriate ICD-9 codes.
9. Retrieves results from LIS as needed. Relays reports by phone, FAX, or mail.
10. Retrieves, distributes and files Manual Quest reports.
11. Confirms receipt of Verbal Orders.
12. Maintains demographic/doctor Quest database.
13. Reviews and revises internal procedures, maintenance manuals, etc., at least annually.
14. Coordinates reviews and revises outreach manual at least annually. Processes LMO’s. Reviews LMO’s to confirm testing and billing accuracy. Works as a Phlebotomy Technician when needed. Performs additional duties in an efficient and timely manner.
15. Develops and sends technical updates as needed. Responsible for managing the Chain of Custody Drug Screening Program. Routinely inventories and orders items as needed. Maintains completed, accurate order sheets. Works with Laboratory Coordinator to insure billing accuracy for all Out Reach Accounts, for both Client Billing and hospital billing. Reviews Quest bill for accuracy.
16. Reviews and revises test requisition as needed. Coordinates all activities to set up new accounts (courier, mailboxes, supplies, etc.). In-services all personnel on specimen processing and outreach policies and procedures. Works with LIS Section Head/Compliance Coordinator to review policies and customer’s needs.
17. Updates referenced procedures within six month of receipt of updated reference. Types procedures and forms within time needed using word processing, spreadsheets, etc. Contacts potential customers. Coordinates activities with admitting and business departments to establish new accounts. Serves as the primary laboratory contact to all outreach accounts. Periodically visits or calls all existing accounts. Tracks problems in order to make improvements.

Professional Experience Requirements:
● Two (2) years of progressive experience in related field.
