At Valley Regional Hospital, patients are the center of our coordinated care system and right now we have an opening for a Phlebotomist to join our team. 


The primary responsibility of the Phlebotomist is: consistently draw blood competently and expediently with as little patient discomfort as possible.

  • Identifies the patient either by comparing patient information on the requisition to the patient's identification band or soliciting the patient's full name and date of birth verbally before venipuncture is performed.
  • Reviews orders/requisitions for accuracy before drawing patients.
  • Documents orders and collect information accurately in LIS.
  • Displays a courteous, professional manner towards patients, co-workers, nursing members and medical staff.
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/ healthcare errors.
  • Labels and records all test tubes, logs procedures, files paperwork.
  • Is knowledgeable about which color top tube to use and the volume of blood needed — knows test requirements.
  • Follow Standard Precautions at all times.

 

An ideal candidate would have the following qualifications:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Eighty hours of training in the proper procedure to be employed in the performance of venipuncture and skin punctures under the supervision of the Chief Medical Technologist.
  • Medical Assistant or Phlebotomy certification preferred.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Obtains and maintains BLS Certification
  • Ability to be a self-motivated learner, to take initiative in learning the many complex processes
  • Exhibits professionalism at all times, understands appropriate workplace behavior/communications.
