Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 333-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus including at a network of Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.       FLSA Status Non-Exempt Job Role Summary Dedicated healthcare professional responsible for assisting providers in delivering high-quality orthopedic and clinical care. Skilled in applying, removing, and modifying casts, splints, and orthopedic devices while ensuring patient comfort and safety.  Supports physicians with in-office procedures, prepares exam rooms, documents patient information accurately, and provides patient education on cast care and treatment plans. Demonstrates strong knowledge of infection control, sterile techniques, and clinical protocols.  Committed to improving patient satisfaction through compassionate communication, efficiency, and teamwork.  Ensure proper stocking of supplies, equipment maintenance, and adherence to safety standards to promote excellent patient outcomes.  Essential Functions and Responsibilities Apply, remove, and modify casts, splints, braces, and other orthopedic devices for all age groups under provider direction. Assist physicians during orthopedics procedures (joint injections, wound care, suture/staple removal). Prepare and position patients for examinations and procedures Perform basic clinical duties (vital signs, patient history intake, documentation in EMR) Provide patient education on cast care, splint care, brace use, crutch training, and post- procedure instructions Recognize signs of circulation issues, swelling, infection, or complications and report promptly Maintain sterile field and follow infection control protocols Stock exam rooms and cast carts daily; monitor supply levels and check expiration dates. Ensure proper cleaning and maintenance of equipment and instruments Document procedures, patient interactions, and provider instructions accurately Support the training and development of orthopedic medical students and residents through instruction, clinical guidance, and hands-on education as appropriate. Performs assigned administrative duties for the Orthopedic clinic, including triaging physicians’ schedules, coordinating and adjusting patient appointments as needed, and communicating appointment details to patients in a timely and professional manner.  Job Requirements High school diploma or equivalent (GED), plus a minimum of one year working experience in medical environment (i.e., nursing, ambulance or surgery) Basic Life Support BLS) certification Previous splinting, bracing, casting experience A minimum of one year of experience in a hospital or Orthopedic setting National Board for Certification of Orthopedics technology or/ National Association of Orthopedic Technology preferred Nursing assistant or medical assistant training preferred       Accredited by The Joint Commission and named as one of Indiana’s best employers by Forbes magazine for two consecutive years and the top hospital in the state for community benefit by the Lown Institute, Eskenazi Health’s programs have received national recognition while also offering new health care opportunities to the local community.
