Under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager, the primary duties are to coordinate and supervise all activities of the UCLA Immunogenetics Center (UIC) unlicensed HLT staff for client services and the specimen processing areas. Oversee sample procurement/processing/storage/shipping/distribution/tracking, personnel, pricing, quotes, billing, reporting and communication of patient test results to the clinical teams. Compliance with clinical testing requirements is required. Along with the clinical staff of the UIC, work with UCLA researchers or outside clients including academic, pharma, industry, and/or government to assure effective management of special projects and clinical trial studies. Management of data entry and retrieval from the electronic medical record, laboratory management system and biorepository tracking software is required. The broad operational scope and responsibilities involve direct contact and varied relationships on multiple departmental and organizational levels. Must consistently and continuously, anticipate, identify, and respond to customer requirements within the context of the mission of the Immunogenetics Center.

Qualifications

1. A minimum of 5 years recent supervisory/lead experience in client services, receiving or send out

areas of a clinical laboratory.

2. Ability to promote and use interpersonal skills to provide excellent customer service and ability to

work cooperatively as a member of a team and to promote teamwork in others.

3. Ability to respond clearly, concisely and cooperatively to questions from other technologists,

unlicensed staff or supervisory staff regarding how procedures/duties were or should be performed,

validity of test results, etc..

4. Ability to proactively assess workload and help co-workers and to organize workflow to meet the

expected turnaround time for test results and assigned laboratory tasks.

5. Skill in analyzing data, information, problems and procedures to enable the definition of problems

or objectives, identify relevant factors, formulate logical solutions and follow up for resolution or

implementation.

6. Skill in supervising all activities for the section including organizing workflow to accomplish

established objectives; delegating responsibility; training: subordinates’ effectiveness; evaluating

section needs and administering necessary corrective action plans.

7. Skill in motivating others; simulating people to effective action and ability to act as a positive role

model for others.

8. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with personnel in the section;

in the laboratory; in ancillary medical areas;’ and with people outside the Medical Center

9. Skill in performing multiple tasks simultaneously under conditions of frequent interruptions,

distractions, and heavy workload while maintaining equanimity, accuracy and productivity.

10. Demonstrates skill in speaking on a one-to-one basis using appropriate vocabulary and grammar to

obtain or give information, explain procedures, teach, and to report results.

11. Ability to access work areas and to perform essential job.

12. Skill in performing mathematical calculations to include adding, subtracting, multiplying and

dividing whole numbers, fractions, and decimals with and without a calculator to derive results.
