Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 333-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus including at a network of Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Job Role Summary
The Technical Coordinator, Echo Lab develops and provides oversight to daily staffing and patient schedule; responsible for oversight of on-call schedule. This position is responsible and accountable for required documentation and record-keeping for ICAEI Accreditation.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Proactively contributes to Eskenazi Health's mission: Advocate, Care, Teach, and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County. Models Eskenazi Health values of Professionalism, Respect, Innovation, Development, and Excellence.
Develops and provides oversight to daily staffing and patient schedule; responsible for oversight of on-call schedule
Responsible for selection of peer-review cases for ongoing quality monitoring
Responsible and accountable for required documentation and record-keeping for ICAEI Accreditation
Serves as point person in the event of ICAEL Accreditation site visit
Serves as liaison between Eskenazi Health and ICAEL regarding all ICAEL Accreditation issues
Performs all laboratory duties as delegated by Medical Director
Performs echocardiograms in the laboratory
Performs general supervision of technical staff
Performs operation and maintenance oversight of equipment
Ensures compliance of the technical staff to the ICAEL Standards
Works with the Medical Director, Clinical Director, Medical Staff, and Clinical Staff to ensure quality patient care
Performs technical training
Attends quarterly echocardiography quality assurance conferences to review the results of variability, correlation, and report timelines, to allow discrepancies and to discuss difficult cases and laboratory issues
Explains echocardiogram procedures and risk factors to patients
Responds promptly and efficiently to medical emergencies which may arise
Initiates and/or assist in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, as well as assisting in code situations
Responsible for preparing final report and mailing to proper destination
Administers routine/stress echocardiograms on inpatients and outpatients, recognizing any abnormal/normal echo patterns by 2-Dimensional, M-Mode, or Doppler echographs.
Produces copy to CD of echo images for computer storage or teaching purposes
Conducts bedside echocardiograms in NICU, intensive care units, on medical floors, or in emergency rooms
Discusses abnormal tests, both stress and echo with physicians
Uses off-line computer to quantify abnormalities
Studies heart physiology to determine normal/abnormal patterns
Transports equipment to appropriate locations and conducts test bedside for in-hospital patients
Performs pre/post exercise stress echo echograms and analyzes data on computer
Alters activities/behaviors to reflect/ensure adequate care appropriate to the age of patients served (i.e., adolescent, geriatric, pediatric, neo-natal, adult) as described in the area/unit age specific and/or job specific competencies
Must maintain age specific and job specific competencies as described according to department/area/unit specific competencies
Job Requirements
Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) from American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
Completion of an Ultrasound or Echocardiography Technology certificate program, or minimum of 2 years technical experience in an Echocardiography Clinic setting
On-the-job training for advanced procedures provided
Further advancement is dependent upon certification by appropriate certifying body
Must document at least 15 hours of echocardiography-related continuing education over a period of three years; yearly accumulated continuing education must be kept on file and available for submission upon request
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Skills in: Use of echo/ultrasound equipment (M-Mode and 2-Dimensional, Cross-Sectional echocardiographs, copy to CD, use of off-time computer analysis systems, computer data storage, effective interpersonal communication, patient assessment prior to/during/following diagnostic procedures
Knowledge of: physics of ultrasound machines, procedures, cardiac anatomy/physiology
Ability to follow oral/written directions, work independently within guidelines without direct supervision, work effectively under pressure (i.e., patients in stress/crisis, patient volume)
Demonstrated expertise in basic echocardiography procedures
Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served
Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data/interpret appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to age specific needs
Ability to use age appropriate communication skills
Age appropriate cognitive abilities, skills, techniques and communications are detailed in the department/area/unit job specific/age specific competencies
