The patient population served includes residents of Wake County living with mental illness who are seeking primary care services. Summary:

The Certified Medical Assistant II (CMA II) provides exceptional customer service to both internal and external stakeholders while supporting physicians and advanced practice providers (APPs) in the delivery of comprehensive primary care services. This role works collaboratively with providers, clinical staff, administrative personnel, and leadership to ensure high-quality patient care and efficient clinic operations. Responsibilities include providing clinical and operational support, assisting with quality improvement initiatives, contributing to the development and implementation of departmental and program standards, managing incoming communications, and supporting daily workflow activities. The CMA II serves as a key member of the care team, promoting a positive patient experience and maintaining high standards of service excellence.

Work Schedule:

This position is scheduled Monday through Friday, working 8-hour shifts between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. This is a fully on-site position with free parking available.

Incentive:

$7,500 Commitment Incentive paid out in three (3) installments over three (3) years.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Rooming patients for primary care visits and preparing them for provider evaluation

• Obtaining laboratory specimens and performing point-of-care testing as ordered

• Answering and routing telephone calls in a professional and timely manner

• Managing electronic in-basket requests and patient communications

• Assisting with administrative processes, including fax management, prior authorizations, and other clinical documentation needs

• Supporting providers and staff to ensure efficient clinic operations and continuity of patient care.

Primary Care experience preferred.

Education Requirements:
● None required as long as other position qualifications are met.
● Completion of a Medical Assisting program accredited by either the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accreditation Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) is strongly preferred but not required.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
● Requires Medical Assistant certification by either the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), National Health Career Association (CCMA), National Association of Health Professionals (NRCMA), or National Center for Competency Testing (NCMA).
● Basic Life Support Certification from American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) required.
Professional Experience Requirements:
● Possess at least one year of full-time experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified.
● Demonstrate possession of the competencies outlined in the Medical Assistant, Certified Advancement Worksheet through their application and interview.
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:
● Ability to perform the essential functions of the position as outlined above.
● Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills.
● Demonstrated ability to engage positively with patients and families and to work as a team with staff and providers.
● Ability to use a computer to document required information into the electronic medical record.
