The Role 

As a Medication Access Technician, you will serve as a key liaison between patients, providers, pharmacists, insurance companies, and pharmaceutical manufacturers to ensure patients receive the medications they need. This is a highly autonomous, computer-based role that combines pharmacy knowledge, insurance navigation, and patient advocacy in a fast-paced specialty pharmacy environment. 

On a typical day, you will: 

  • Conduct benefit investigations and determine patient coverage options 

  • Submit, track, and manage prior authorizations 

  • Coordinate insurance appeals and resolve medication access barriers 

  • Assist patients with enrollment in financial assistance and manufacturer support programs 

  • Communicate with patients regarding medication access, approvals, and next steps 

  • Collaborate with pharmacists, physicians, nurses, and specialty clinic teams 

  • Monitor multiple work queues and follow-up activities while maintaining productivity goals 

  • Document activities accurately within electronic systems and pharmacy workflows 

  • Support prescription fulfillment and medication shipment coordination when needed

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education: High School Graduate or equivalent required.

Experience: 6 months minimum relevant experience required.

Licensure: Commonwealth of Virginia Pharmacy Technician Registration required. CPhT credential through National Healthcareer Association (NHA) or Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Job requires sitting for prolonged periods. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly.

The pay range for this role is $20.68 - $28.47 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
