Summary
Under the direction of the department Clinical Manager, the Perioperative Support Technician is a vital clinical team member who supports perioperative services outside of the operating room. Understands perioperative workflows, equipment functioning and management, supply inventory and stocking, and sterile technique. Removes patient casts, screens patient for fall risk, performs radiology screening and surgical support functions to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. Assumes responsibility and accountability for assuring quality care as a health care team member. Anticipates, plans for, and responds to the needs of the patient, surgeon, NP/PA, anesthesia, Radiology associate, and other team members. Recognizes and handles biohazard materials correctly. Maintains confidentiality of information regarding patients, patient families, coworkers, and physicians. In addition, performs specific SAU and PreAdmission Testing responsibilities of EKG testing and phlebotomy.
Education
Must be a high school graduate or the equivalent GED.
Licensure/Certification
Must have CPR certification.
Experience
At least one year experience in health care setting preferred.
Other Qualifications
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of general computer skills and applications. Demonstrates ability to multi-task and work independently using critical thinking skills. Demonstrates strong clinical judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-acuity perioperative environment. Must be able to lift 50 pounds; 100 pounds shared lifting; push 200 pounds.
