This position is located primarily at 1 Southpark Circle in Charleston (West Ashley), with training and occasional on-site work at MUSC Health East Cooper at 1600 Midtown Avenue in Mt. Pleasant. Job Description
The Prior Authorization Pharmacy Technician supports the outpatient pharmacy operations by managing the end-to-end prior-authorization process for medications, services, and procedures. This role ensures timely submission of accurate documentation to payers, monitors authorizations and denials, collaborates with clinical and provider teams, and helps optimize reimbursement while safeguarding patient access to therapy.

Minimum Requirements:
Education: High School diploma or equivalent
Work Experience: 0 - 6 months
Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician by the State of South Carolina Board of Pharmacy (SCBOP)is required and must be maintained.
Must obtain and maintain Pharmacy Technician Certification (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT)) certification:
Team members as of 11/1/2023: within 1 year of 11/1/2023.
New Team members as of 11/1/2023: within 6 months of hire.
New team members who are enrolled or will enroll in a pharmacy technician training program accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and/or recognized by PTCB, have 30 days post program completion to obtain certification.
Physical Requirements: Continuous requirements are to perform job functions while standing, walking and sitting. Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, reach in all directions. Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required. Maintain 20/40 vision corrected, see and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance, work in a latex safe environment and work indoors. Frequently lift, lower, push and pull and/or carry objects weighing 50 lbs (+/-) unassisted, exert up to 50 lbs of force, lift from 36” to overhead 25 lbs. Infrequently work in dusty areas and confined/cramped spaces.
