Benefits: This is not a benefited position. In lieu of benefits, an additional 15% premium is added to the base pay for all Per Diem (Casual) employees.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Assess, develop, implement, and monitor individualized nutrition care plans using the Nutrition Care Process for acute care, long-term care, and outpatient populations.
Provide medical nutrition therapy and nutrition education for patients, residents, employees, and community members with a variety of health conditions.
Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary teams to support patient care, discharge planning, and long-term care conferences.
Document nutrition assessments, interventions, and outcomes while maintaining accurate, confidential medical records.
Support Nutrition Services quality improvement initiatives, menu planning, and departmental programs to enhance patient care and regulatory compliance.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree or higher in nutrition, food science, foodservice administration, or a related field from an accredited institution.
Registered Dietitian (RD) credential with current State of Alaska licensure and membership in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
Experience providing medical nutrition therapy, including care for patients with diabetes and other chronic disease conditions.
Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and computer skills with the ability to maintain accurate, confidential records.
Ability to analyze nutritional data, calculate meal and formula requirements, and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Ability to work collaboratively with patients, families, physicians, and healthcare staff while providing compassionate, patient-centered care.
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 25 pounds, walk, stand, stoop, and sit for extended periods throughout the workday.
ENVIRONMENT
South Peninsula Hospital is a 22-bed acute care hospital with a 25-bed long-term care facility, offering a collaborative healthcare environment where most work is performed indoors. This position requires a combination of patient interaction, clinical documentation, and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, with work hours that may vary based on patient care needs. Job hazards include potential exposure to infectious diseases, bodily fluids, and other healthcare-related hazards while providing patient care, requiring adherence to established safety and infection control protocols.
