Under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist, performs routine and specialized technical and clerical duties for drug distribution to patients. This individual has excellent customer service skills and is able to function independently within their scope of responsibility. The incumbent is able to demonstrate leadership skills on a day to day basis. This job builds on the responsibilities of a Pharmacy Technician Certified II.

Responsibilities
  • Answers phones and triages customer service issues.
  • Prepares prescription and non-prescription medication and/or devices.
  • Stocks and replenishes stock locations and automated dispensing machines (ADMs).
  • Serves as a preceptor and assists with orientation and training of pharmacy department staff.
  • Provides oversight of controlled substance inventory, including ordering, receiving, and auditing of controlled substance usage.
  • Communicates supply issues, problems or discrepancies to the appropriate personnel.
  • Assists in revising policies and procedures.
  • Assists with workflow management.
  • Delivers medications to patient care areas.
  • Performs purchasing and billing functions.
  • Establishes and maintains training materials.
  • Prepares or compounds non-sterile, non-antineoplastic drug products in accordance with USP chapter 795 under supervision of a licensed Pharmacist.
  • Repackages bulk medication into unit doses in accordance with USP chapter 795 under supervision of a licensed Pharmacist.
  • Prepares intravenous admixtures or other sterile drug products (including antineoplastic, investigational and hazardous medications) in accordance with USP chapters <797> and <800> under supervision of a licensed Pharmacist.
  • Utilizes closed system transfer devices to limit potential exposure of the environment to hazardous medications.
  • Utilizes and troubleshoots various software and hardware used by the pharmacy department.
  • Dispenses and rebuilds paramedic kits and code carts as needed.
  • Conducts monthly medication area inspections.
  • Reviews, manages, and files daily reports.

Qualifications
  • HS diploma or equivalency required
  • Graduate of certified pharmacy technician training program required (up to one year after employment)
  • Associates degree in a health or related field, (with 1 year of pharmacy experience), or the equivalent in education and experience preferred.
  • One year related pharmacy experience preferred
  • Hospital experience preferred
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment with accuracy.
  • Strong customer service skills, including phone interactions.
  • Ability to multitask with attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain composure under stressful situations.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer Literacy

Required Licensure/Certifications

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS:
• Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification requiredREQUIRED REGISTRATION(S):
• Registered Pharmacy Technician with the New Hampshire Board of Pharmacy required.
