Schedule: Full-time with 8- or 10-hour shifts between the hours of 6:00 am - 6:00 pm with weekend rotations required.

Location: This is a fully remote position. Candidates for this role need to have an active Pharmacy Technician license in Utah, Colorado, Montana or Nevada. Candidates outside of these states will not be considered.

Join our Refill Authorization Pharmacy Team at Intermountain Health, where pharmacists and pharmacy technicians work collaboratively to ensure patients have timely access to prescribed medications. This fully remote team supports patient care by completing medication refill authorizations for primary care clinics across Intermountain. Future cross-training is planned with the Prior Authorization and Medication Assistance teams.

Job Function

The Pharmacy Technician demonstrates consistent application of knowledge and skills in assisting the pharmacist in execution of appropriate, safe, efficacious, efficient, and cost-effective pharmaceutical care. The position participates in many procedural aspects of pharmacy practice under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist or technician supervisor and is an integral part of the pharmacy team. This position supports Pharmacy Services in all locations (i.e., acute, community, ambulatory, specialty).

Essential Functions

  • Reviews patient charts to verify most recent provider visits and ensure eligibility for refill under the EMRC collaborative practice agreement.
  • Gathers and reviews relevant clinical information (e.g., labs, monitoring parameters, and medication history) to support refill requests.
  • Prepares and documents refill authorization requests using pharmacy technology systems in accordance with state law, policies, and protocols.
  • Ensures all required clinical criteria and documentation are complete prior to pharmacist review.
  • Routes completed refill requests to the pharmacist for final verification and processing.
  • Communicates with pharmacists and care team members regarding missing information, concerns, or clarification needs.
  • Identifies potential safety concerns or gaps in care and escalates appropriately to the pharmacist.
  • Maintains accurate and compliant documentation in the patient record.
  • Demonstrates strong computer proficiency and the ability to efficiently navigate multiple systems and complex electronic health records in a remote work environment.
  • Works collaboratively as part of a large, remote team; demonstrates strong interpersonal skills, professionalism, and the ability to build positive working relationships across the care team.

Qualifications

  • High School or equivalent is required
  • Current pharmacy technician certification and/or license applicable to state of practice.
  • Current knowledge of state and federal regulations and statutes regarding the practice of pharmacy and the distribution of approved drugs, controlled substances, and investigational agents.
  • Any lapse or failure to meet these requirements may result in disciplinary action, up to termination, at the hiring manager's discretion.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3 years of experience preferred.
  • Prior health system or retail experience
  • Familiarity with top 100 most common medications

Physical Requirements

  • Carrying, hearing/listening, lifting, manual dexterity, pulling/pushing, seeing, climbing, crawling, speaking, squatting/kneeling, standing, walking as needed to perform job duties.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

$20.73 - $31.58
