Job Summary

This position plays a critical role in supporting Augusta Health’s mission and advancing departmental goals through measurable performance indicators and service excellence. This position contributes to a collaborative, patient-centered environment and helps drive outcomes aligned with organizational priorities.

The office nurse will provide clinical support to the physician as needed and will provide direct nursing care to patients. Duties include performing as a member of the team and assisting in the administration and maintenance of an efficiently operated clinic. Accurately performs and documents assigned duties under the direction and supervision of the physician in accordance with the medical model of care as provided by the State Board of Nursing.

Initiates implementation of processes and has access to all operational components of the office as required by daily operations.

Access to operational components of a practice includes access to physician’s office, medical records, medical supplies and locked drug closets/ refrigerators.

Essential Job Duties

  • Assist with blood pressure check visits and medicine reviews
  • Assist with routine office duties to include ordering medical supplies, maintaining appropriate inventory, scheduling patients, answering telephones, etc.
  • Assists with physical assessment data collection.
  • Collect, label and prepare specimens for lab delivery.
  • Communicates effectively with all age groups.
  • Completes those portions of the physical assessment as directed by the provider.
  • Document all patient care provided.
  • Maintains patient safety.
  • Participates in educational and training programs to meet Augusta Health requirements.
  • Participates in staff meetings.
  • Provide assistance to physician as needed in examinations and special procedures.
  • Provide direct routine nursing care to patients according to provider’s instructions.
  • Provide pre and post-procedural nursing care to patients including administration of medication, local lab tests, venipuncture, EKGs and assessment of patient’s status.
  • Responsible, versatile individual willing to accept a variety of responsibilities.
  • Arrange for follow-up care and appointments for patients and maintain communication with patients/families in other facilities.
  • Coordinate and track wellness initiatives for patients (labs, immunizations, colonoscopies, mammograms)
  • Arrange patient referrals to specialty clinics.
  • Accepts and documents verbal orders / critical results according to Augusta Health Policy.
  • Performs waived testing according to the Augusta Health Policy and Procedure.
  • Administers medications per the guidelines for Augusta Health.
  • Performs patient education as directed by the provider.
  • General office housekeeping duties may be required to keep the office presentable for daily operations.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Licensure/Certification:
    • Licensure as an LPN by the State of Virginia
    • CPR certified
  • Experience: Ability to meet physical and mental requirements of the position in a fast-paced physician practice
  • Driver's License: N/A
  • Eligibility to work in the United States and meet Virginia state employment requirements

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education: None
  • Licensure/Certification: None
  • Experience: Previous physician office experience preferred
  • Prior experience in a hospital, healthcare system, or related service-oriented environment
  • Familiarity with Augusta Health’s systems, workflows, or organizational culture is a plus
