Summary:
Performs diagnostic tests to measure the electrical activity of the heart.
Hours vary - typically 8 to 12 hr shifts, days and weekends
Responsibilities:
1. Instructs, prepares, and pre-assesses patients for electrocardiogram (EKG) tests, stress testing and/or cardiovascular monitoring devices.
2. Operates EKG machines and attach electrodes to patients' bodies to obtain accurate heart readings.
3. Monitors EKG equipment during tests to ensure optimal functionality and troubleshoot any issues that may arise.
4. Observes scanner screen to identify irregularities in patient cardiac patterns and verifies data to printout for interpretation by the physician.
5. Set up and assist physician in administering exercise treadmill stress testing.
6. Records and edits test results, providing preliminary reports to responsible licensed caregivers (Registered Nurse, Physician).
7. Maintains accurate and detailed patient records related to tests and results using a Cardiac Infor-mation Management System (MUSE).
8. Maintains all equipment associated with stress testing and cardiovascular monitoring devices e.g., Holter Monitor, institutes trouble shooting measures, recognizes equipment malfunctions and communicates with service engineers.
9. Provides patient care and support, addressing any concerns or questions they may have regarding the during cardiac diagnostic procedures.
10. Maintains an environment of safety for patients, self and others.
11. Collaborates with healthcare team members to discuss and verify test results.
12. Assists in the training of new personnel.

Education Requirements:
● Successful completion of an approved EKG class (or equivalent combination of education, training and experience).
● High School Diploma or GED
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
● Certification from a nationally recognized company in electrocardiography.
● Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider Certification
Professional Experience Requirements:
● If successful completion of an approved EKG class: No prior experience required.
● If a High School diploma or GED: Six (6) months of experience in a medical environment.
