UOVUNIUSR0079262EXTERNALENUS Be the backbone of the operating room. Where preparation meets precision. UVA Health University Medical Center is seeking Surgical Support Technicians (SST) to support the Main Operating Room, one of the busiest and most complex perioperative environments in Virginia.

This is a hands-on, mission critical role for individuals who thrive in fast paced clinical settings and want to be directly involved in surgical care, even without prior OR experience. As an SST, your work ensures operating rooms are safe, ready, and fully supported so surgical teams can focus on what matters most: the patient.

This role is ideal for candidates looking to launch or grow a perioperative career while gaining exposure to advanced surgical services in a nationally recognized academic medical center.

The Role 

At UVA Health, Surgical Support Technicians are respected members of the perioperative team, working alongside surgeons, nurses, anesthesia providers, and technologists to keep surgery running safely, efficiently, and on time. 

As a Surgical Support Technician (SST) Main OR at UVA Health, you will: 

  • Set up and break down operating rooms to ensure readiness for each surgical case 
  • Clean and disinfect OR surfaces and equipment following infection control standards 
  • Sort and dispose of contaminated materials per hospital guidelines 
  • Transport patients to and from Surgery while providing comfort and observing safety needs (Main OR only) 
  • Stock supplies, maintain equipment, and support efficient room turnover 
  • Work cooperatively with the surgical team in a high‑acuity, time‑sensitive environment

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: HS Diploma or equivalent.
Experience: 0 years of experience (1 year preferred)
Licensure: BLS within 2 months of hire. CNA or EMT preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 25-50lbs. The starting base rate for this role is $19.75 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
