Job Overview:
Perform all necessary test protocols on patients in the lab, at bedside, in the Emergency Room, Recovery Room or in the Operating Room as deemed necessary by physician. Provide a preliminary report for all patients; Contact attending/referring physician if a critical finding is obtained. Performs ultrasound guided pseudo-aneurysm compression under the direct supervision of vascular surgeon. Assists vascular surgeon in ultrasound guided pseudo-aneurysm injections. Maintains Vascular Laboratory standards as set by Inter-societal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL).
Qualifications:
Required:
High school graduate or equivalent
Completion of formal Ultrasound Training Program with previous experience in a Vascular Laboratory
Successful completion of all Orientation Programs
Completion of all mandatory compliance training
Preferred:
Preferred bilingual in Spanish
Certifications and Licenses Required:
Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) status required
A technologist may be hired as registry eligible. In such cases the candidate must sit for the registry exam within 6 months of hire and pass the exam within the first year of hire to maintain employment.
BLS Healthcare Provider Certification required with American Heart Association
Essential Functions:
Ability to select appropriate equipment for specific test. Performs appropriate test according to laboratory protocol.
Assess correlation of test results with symptoms. Consult with physician and perform additional necessary studies.
Checks physician’s orders for specific test. Clarify ambiguous orders with referring physician. Evaluates indications for requested test per patient’s history.
Collects all prescriptions, referrals and co-pays of outpatients when necessary. Ensure timeliness of testing after outpatient registration.
Enters patient information onto Laboratory database. Adheres to departmental safety procedures during test.
Evaluates patient’s ability to adequately cooperate/tolerate specific test modality. Performs physical assessment pertinent to vascular disease.
Maintain equipment & exam rooms in neat & orderly manner. Inform supervisor of problem areas or equipment malfunctions.
Maintains professional attitude when dealing with patients and hospital personnel in other departments.
Notify referring physician of critical findings. Discuss results with physician if requested.
Observe patient for discomfort or change in clinical status during study.
Obtain hardcopy documentation and compile data for record keeping & reporting.
Prepares preliminary report of results. Consults with colleagues or Medical Director if results are confusing or ambiguous.
Reports to work in a timely fashion on a daily basis. Responds and arrives promptly when responding to on-call emergency.
Schedules procedures and maintains daily workload and other responsibility as needed for the intuition.
Seeks out further training if warranted. Meets continuing education status per ICAVL standards.
