Job Summary

  • Wellstar Cobb in Austell, Georgia is seeking a FT Night Registered CT Technologist.

  • The days and hours for the position are Monday - Wednesday 7p - 7:30a.

  • This position will receive evening and night shift differential and CT specialty differential.

  • Must be flexible with work hours to meet department needs.

  • Must be dependable, accountable and cooperative.

  • Assists with providing safe, age‑appropriate care by performing all exams according to department procedures.

  • Has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study.

  • Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative.

  • Able to independently perform job functions.

  • Sets up equipment to provide imaging service and positions patients for the procedure.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions

Equipment

  • Adjusts technique so that patient receives the lowest possible dose of ionizing radiation while maintaining image quality.

  • Reports malfunctioning equipment to supervisor or service provider for timely correction.

  • Cleans, disinfects and maintains equipment according to infection control policy and department cleaning schedule.

Patient Care

  • Verifies proper clinician order for procedure.

  • Obtains complete clinical history, gathers exam data and assesses for contraindicating conditions.

  • Follows established procedures for safe administration of contrast medias.

  • Ensures proper patient identification and correct use of right/left markers.

  • Reviews CT/radiographic images for clinically acceptable results and releases patients.

  • Responds to emergency situations and maintains life support equipment and crash cart.

  • Assists technologists in all modalities as needed.

  • Observes patient condition and evaluates situations requiring physician intervention.

  • Verifies patient identity using two unique identifiers per policy.

  • Ensures patient privacy and comfort; maintains dignity throughout procedures.

  • Demonstrates competence in selecting procedures, equipment, supplies and techniques based on patient age.

  • Organizes schedule, time and priorities to meet required time frames.

  • Follows physician instructions when assisting with procedures and exams.

  • Demonstrates proficiency with power injector operation.

  • Uses critical thinking skills.

  • Conducts dialogue with patients and families.

  • Asks clarifying questions and seeks clarification on ambiguous orders.

  • Understands and documents preprocedural verification and Time‑Out when appropriate.

  • Demonstrates and understands pre‑ and post‑procedural care.

  • Preps the patient for procedures.

  • Demonstrates and understands sterile technique.

  • Maintains competency with venipuncture.

Education and Communication

  • Explains purpose and nature of exams using AIDET to minimize anxiety and improve cooperation.

  • Ensures patient questions, concerns or contraindications are addressed; notifies physician when necessary.

  • Participates in orientation and training of staff.

  • Provides preparatory instruction and explanation of procedures.

  • Documentation is concise, legible and includes precise terminology.

  • Reads email each scheduled workday and completes all assigned tasks.

  • Completes all mandatory departmental and hospital‑wide education.

Quality Control

  • Consistently produces acceptable images per radiologist feedback and quality audits.

  • Ensures equipment is fully operational by checking calibration and operating deficiencies before each use.

  • Sends all studies to PACS immediately after completion; prints CDs as needed.

  • Prints and scans teleradiography studies after hours when applicable.

  • Completes all studies in RIS prior to completing them in PACS.

  • Prints completed teleradiography log sheet and submits to Radiologist when applicable.

Operations

  • Restocks linens and supplies and maintains a clean, orderly department.

  • Transports and positions patients and assists them on and off the procedure table.

  • Performs patient charging activities on the day service is rendered.

  • Applies shielding, supportive and immobilization devices and equipment.

  • Lends knowledge and assistance willingly and proactively.

  • Performs clerical and support duties to maintain continuity of services.

  • Keeps supervisor informed and reports potential issues promptly.

  • Maintains productivity equal to other coworkers.

  • Operates all workstations associated with the CT department.

  • Pushes/retrieves images from the CT console to PACS.

  • Maintains Joint Commission and other regulatory standards.

  • Takes call when necessary.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work and code of conduct.

Required Minimum Education

  • Graduate of AMA‑approved School of Radiology Technology — Required

Required Minimum Experience

  • Minimum 1 year experience in Radiology — Required

  • Less than 1 year experience in CT — Preferred

Required Minimum Skills

  • Excellent communication skills due to frequent interaction with physicians, patients, visitors and staff.

  • Routinely obtains, presents and discusses clinical information regarding job responsibilities.

  • Able to explain or give directions to maintain goodwill and cooperation.

  • Must function independently and under pressure while participating as a team member.

  • Provides excellent customer service at all times.

  • Able to perform effectively in a stressful, fast‑paced environment.

  • Must prioritize appropriately.

  • Must communicate professionally with various customer groups including patients, families, coworkers, volunteers and physicians.

  • Must comply with all hospital policies, protocols and professional standards.

  • Competent in all aspects of CT including patient positioning, exposure factors and radiation protection.

  • Must understand anatomy and pathology and how they affect image quality.

  • Competent to perform all ACR and manufacturer‑recommended quality control tests.

Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s)

  • ARRT Radiography — Required

  • ARRT Computed Tomography — Required

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association — Required
