Summary:

Assures that all point of care testing complies with federal regulations by developing policies and monitoring compliance. Actively involved in the decision and implementation of new point of care testing throughout the hospital.


Responsibilities:

Responsible for the quality assurance program for all waived and nonwaived point of care testing. Testing follows the CLIA 88 guidelines. Develop policies and procedures for point of care testing. Monitors staff compliance. Follow up or remedial action for noncompliance. Ensure that all personnel performing point of care tests are following established policies and procedures and quality control standards are met. All requirements for CLIA and JC are satisfied.

Qualifications

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Graduate of an approved Medical Laboratory Program with a knowledge of Point of Care Testing.

EXPERIENCE

    • 2 years or more depending on clinical experience.
  • LICENSURE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION
    • ASCP, NCA, AMT or HHS certification or equivalent.
  • OTHER SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work as a team leader with other departments to develop or provide instruction in point of care testing. Strong writing skills with the ability to develop policy and procedures. Excellent computer skills and experience with multiple computer systems including MS Office and Excel. Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects. Strong regulatory knowledge of JC, CLIA, CAP and other quality systems.
  • WORK ENVIRONMENT
    • Due to indirect or direct contact, you may be at risk for exposure to tuberculosis, blood borne pathogens (which include HIV and Hepatitis B), and/or other potential infectious diseases. Exposure to potentially hazardous chemicals. Frequent contact with water (hand washing and cleaning). Sufficient noise and interruptions to cause distraction and stress.
