Summary:
The Radiology Assistant performs a wide variety of routine duties including clerical, technical and patient related functions. The Radiology Assistant is responsible for assisting members of the patient care team and providing a broad range of health care services such as: patient check-in, exam review, preparation for the visit, patient education, assistance with exams and procedures, and patient transporting. The Radiology Assistant is trained to use a wide variety of radiographic equipment, computers, and software.
The Radiology Assistant may be assigned to work in a variety of imaging sections, assist multiple radiology modalities and/or clinical services per operational needs. The incumbent must be able to resolve conflict and endure the pressures associated with a constantly changing work environment.
Responsibilities:
Patients and their families are served by providing prompt and courteous service, resulting in efficient imaging services. Provides excellent communication skills with patients, other team members and patient families. Exhibits knowledge regarding the needs of neonatal, adolescent, pediatric and/or geriatric patients. Treats patients with a high degree of professionalism with consideration to the patient’s privacy and illness.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
High School diploma. Completion of Nursing Assistant Program and listing as a Nursing Assistant I., or completion of Emergency Medical Technician training at the basic level preferred.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
Previous patient care or customer service experience required.
LICENSURE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION
CPR Certification: completed during orientation and maintained thereafter.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge of patient care equipment including stretcher, wheelchair, oxygen delivery and intravenous pumps, etc.
Good communication skills to interact with patients, radiology technologists, and other clinical staff throughout the hospital.
Promotes a positive image of the hospital at all times.
Demonstrates a “Team Player” attitude and have the ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to comply with all HIPAA requirements.
Physical ability to lift and position patients and assist with patient transfers utilizing beds or stretchers.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Maybe exposed to bloodborne pathogens, which include HIV and Hepatitis B.
Maybe at risk for exposure to TB and other potentially infectious diseases.
Must use personal protective equipment when at risk for exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
Exposure to ionizing radiation, requiring the use of radiation protection equipment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT
Walking and standing throughout shift.
Pushes and pulls stretchers and wheelchairs occupied with patients.
Lifts patients daily with assistance.
Lifts and carries films, cassettes and supplies.
May experience stressful work shifts.
