The Senior Laboratory Assistant in the Mailout section with Client Response tasks is responsible for performing a variety of laboratory duties, including receiving, processing, and shipping laboratory specimens from inpatient units, outpatient clinics, and outside institutions. This is a fast-paced environment that requires working both as a team and independently.

  1. Onsite client reponse functions ( calls, packaging samples and supplies, investigating problem samples, backup to the client response team)
  2. Orders requested tests in the laboratory and Reference Laboratories computer systems.
  3. Packages specimens for mailing, shipping and couriers.
  4. Accepts and reports test results from Reference Laboratories.
  5. Prepares charges/credits for testing performed at Reference Laboratories.
  6. Keeps procedure resource directories current.
  7. Ensures that all commercial labs meet regulatory requirements for CLIA certification.
  8. Reviews and maintains price lists from reference laboratories.
  9. Ensures that all necessary mailing and shipping supplies are inventoried and ordered.

This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week day-shift position working Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm


Responsibilities
  1. Performs quality and receiving functions related to checking patient demographic information, registration, ordering, adding, and canceling tests, following all safety rules and regulations. Prints and scans orders into the Laboratory information system.
  2. Labels samples and delivers specimens to the testing department, loads analyzers and centrifuges, performs specimen processing, restocks inventory, and maintains the organized lab space.
  3. Performs routine maintenance on laboratory equipment as needed. Performs equipment Quality Control and validations.
  4. Identifies problems and assists with planning and implementing changes for continued improvements.
  5. Runs floor to perform a variety of laboratory tests in the area of work, including organizing work assignments to ensure timely completion following established laboratory procedures. Follows up on shift communication and follow-up clipboard. Implements computer downtime.
  6. Assists with training and provides training Gantt chart review input.
  7. Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications
  • Strong computer skills and attention to detail.
  • Able to complete assignments with minimal direction, adapt to change, and respond quickly to problems and issues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group.
  • High school graduate, college classes preferred
  • 2+ years Lab or related experience
