Job Description Summary
Under general supervision, the Pathologists’ Assistant I, independently examines, prepares, describes, and dissects various surgical specimens from the simple to the highly complex. The Pathologists’ Assistant aids in the training of grossing procedures and techniques. Responsibilities include prioritizing workflow, examination, and dissection of routine to highly complex neoplastic cases, submission of tissue for histological analysis, procurement of tissue, summary and dictation of medical histories and gross findings, specimen photography, and frozen sectioning. The Pathologists’ Assistant adheres to all quality, safety, compliance, regulatory, and accreditation standards. This position works on the MUSC Charleston campus, rotating between two onsite hospital-based grossing laboratories. Day shift, Monday-Friday, with occasional evening and weekend hours.Entity

Additional Job Description
Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree from a NAACLS accredited Pathologists’ Assistant program preferred. Certification/Licensure: Certification by American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) or equivalent preferred, however, if not certified, must have completed a NACCLS Accredited PA Program and be certification eligible, certification must be achieved within 1 year of hire, until certification achieved salary will be 10% less.
