Summary:
The Operating Room Attendant is responsible for the transport of pre-operative and post-operative patients, assisting with positioning of surgical patients, cleaning operating rooms between surgeries, maintaining equipment and storerooms, obtaining supply carts and special-order items, and assist with direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
Responsibilities:
Transports patients, specimens, blood, and blood products between clinical areas. Assist with positioning and holding limbs for surgical site prep. Completes pre-op skin prep as outlined in physician orders.
Obtains case needs for each operating room by positioning equipment, aids, and supplies. Assists with all aspects of room set up and cleaning.
Performs delegated duties as a member of the surgical team under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Assists with other patient care activities as assigned by circulator.
Maintains safe environment for patient care by effectively completing in between case cleaning for Operating Room. Demonstrates knowledge of cleaning agents and their intended use.
Cleans and prepares operating room in between cases. Promotes a safe, clean and secure hospital environment for all, including the application of standard precautions and principles of infection control.
Ensures surgical department/hallways and scrub sinks are clean and free of clutter or debris. Stocks assigned supplies and equipment as needed.
Other information:
Required
High School diploma or equivalent
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Preferred
Completion of an approved Nursing Assistant course
Experience working in a surgical setting
Working Conditions:
Physically demanding; includes handling and lifting patients
Occasional exposure to blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, radiation, and repetitive motions
Working irregular hours including call hours
