Summary:
Performs electrocardiograms as ordered by the medical staff.
Responsibilities:
1. Examines patient’s ECG requisition form to obtain vital information needed prior to testing (room number, patient number, STAT, preop, etc.), and responds accordingly.
2. Checks patient’s chart to verify other, and accurately transcribes necessary, information from the patient’s chart (BP, medications, ordering physician), ensuring that contraindicating conditions are identified and communicated to the physician prior to initiation of the procedure.
3. Accurately implements diagnostic tests/procedures in accordance with prescribed policies, procedures and techniques. Performs testing in response to patient needs, physician direction/orders, and within the limits of established NGH Special Medicine Department policies, procedures and patient-driven protocols.
4. Effectively explains the purpose and nature of tests or procedures to patient prior to administration, so as to minimize anxiety and enhance cooperation.
5. Communicates positively, directly, clearly, accurately and timely with physicians, team members and other patient care providers. Ensures confidentiality of the patient and the medical record. Participates in the formal/informal teaching and guidance of orientees, students and other staff members, and documents on Skills Checklist, when appropriate. Accomplishes routine and non-routine miscellaneous duties and assignments in accordance with procedure or instructions, and time frames. Completes foundational courses, when enrolled, in a timely manner. Participates in, and assures that, documentation of own continuing education and self-development activities is current and valid, by signing rosters and submitting copies of CE certificates for transcript.

● High school graduate or GED.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
● Basic Arrhythmia Course.
• BCLS certification within 3 months of hire.
Professional Experience Requirements:
● Knowledge of arrhythmias and cardiovascular anatomy/physiology upon hire. Patient care experience.
