Job Description:

A Radiology Practitioner Assistant (RPA) or Registered Radiologist Assistant (RRA) is an advanced practice provider (APP) certified and registered in radiography and is credentialed by the Certification Board for Radiology Practitioner Assistants (CBRPA) and/or the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) to provide primary health care services in medical imaging with physician supervision*. Within the physician/RPA relationship and under the supervision, guidance and discretion of the supervising physician RPAs exercise autonomy in decision making in the role of a primary health care provider with regard to patient assessment, patient management and in providing a broad range of radiology diagnostic and interventional services.

About this role.

Essential Functions

  • During morning report, the RPA will evaluate the day’s schedule of procedures with the supervising physician and other imaging staff to determine where his/her skills will be best utilized.

  • Evaluate medical images, review preliminary reports and images with a supervising physician, and prepare technical reports that will be reviewed and signed off by the supervising physician.

  • Assess and evaluate the physiologic and psychological responsiveness of each patient.

  • Participate in patient management, following review with the supervising physician.

  • The RPA, after demonstrating competency and under the guidance, supervision* and discretion of the supervising physician, will perform the following list of procedures

  • RDCS - Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer or RCS - Reg Cardiac Sonographer - New graduate hires must obtain registry within 18 months of hire

  • Health Care Provider Life Support certification


Preferred Qualifications

  • Associates degree

  • One (1) year ultrasound experience

Physical Requirements

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
  • Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.).
  • May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

$46.91 - $72.39
