Perioperative Support Technician - Operating Room, Per Diem

Orients and completes the necessary competencies to perform a variety of essential environmental and material management functions that ensure patient safety, reduce the risk of hospital-acquired infections, and create safe, clean and sterile work environments for all areas within the Surgical Services Department.


Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with the peri-operative team to ensure efficient and safe workflows within the perioperative space adhering to current hospital and regulatory standards.
  • Performs environmental cleaning processes for all Perioperative areas including procedural and non-procedural spaces, restricted and semi-restricted spaces and all equipment contained therein following regulatory standards including AORN.
  • Removes and cleans unneeded equipment from PACU/OR/CSR and ensures trash and contaminated linens and instruments are properly handled and sent to appropriate destination.
  • Handles blood, tissue, bodily fluids, recyclables and other materials safely.Performs routine and terminal cleaning (an intensive cleaning process) at a regular/established intervals ensuring that the all-clinical spaces are free of infectious material that cause hospital-acquired infections.
  • Reports all faulty equipment to supervisor.
  • Inventories and obtains supplies and equipment needed in real time or in prep for upcoming patients to set up rooms for upcoming patients.
  • Understand the decontamination processes in Central Sterile, learn to clean and process endoscopic scopes, know instrumentation in order to be a runner for the per-operative team.
  • Under the direction of the primary nurse, will assist with patient preparation/positioning prior to the beginning of surgery.
  • Will provide post-surgical nutrition and patient transport outside of the department under the direction of the primary nurse/charge nurse.
  • Maintains required daily temperature logs and other tracking logs.Handles cleaning chemical in a safe manner as established by hospital procedures and regulatory agencies.
  • Demonstrates proper use of PPE along with donning and doffing of PPE.
  • Attends training/maintains competency regarding assembly, disassembly and cleaning of peri-operative equipment.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma with 2 years’ work experience required
  • Ability to anticipate, prioritize, and coordinate work in a high stress environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills preferred.
  • Ability to obtain BLS certification within 30 days.

Required Licensure/Certifications

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS:
• (BLS) Basic Life Support within 30 days
