Summary:
Performs electrocardiograms as ordered by the medical staff.
Responsibilities:
1. Verifies the existence of an appropriate history and/or examination data in preparation for procedure.
2. When determined competent, performs all ECG procedures approved for the position, and as detailed in the position’s Skills Checklist to include, but not limited to: Obtains 12-lead ECG tracings with rhythm strips in routine and emergency situations; Performs IPG tests and associated record keeping; Confirms EKGs in Muse, making changes where indicated; Performs lower venous and arterial studies; Performs treadmill for stress testing, Dobutamine, Adenosine and Persantine, if trained; Performs signal average tests, if trained; Hooks up 30-day Event Monitor, if trained.
3. Communicates with patients or their representatives.
4. Demonstrates knowledge and skill necessary to provide appropriate care based on the age of the patients served.
5. Communicates with team members, physicians, and other care providers regarding diagnostic testing.
6. Provides oversight and guidance to students and new staff in regard to ECGs.
7. Sets up and/or maintains equipment and work areas.
8. Participates in quality assurance and quality improvement activities.
9. Takes an active role in self-development.
10. Performs miscellaneous duties, as needed.
Other information:
Education Requirements:
• High school graduate or GED.
License/Certification Requirements:
• Basic Arrhythmia Course. Take and successfully complete the Basic Arrhythmia Course provided by the hospital.
• BCLS certification within 3 months of hire. Recertification required every 2 years.
Professional Experience Requirements:
• Knowledge of arrhythmias and cardiovascular anatomy/physiology upon hire. Patient care experience preferred.
