Summary:
The Sterile Processing Educator coordinates orientation, staff development and continuing education for Sterile Processing Department.
Responsibilities:
• Assists staff in design and implementation of SPD performance improvement projects.
• Provides education to staff on regulatory standards and compliance, current sterile processing practice issues, and safety standards.
• Maintains and updates all orientation manuals and skills checklists.
• Contributes to sterile processing policy development.
• Creates individualized training plan for all new employees. Conducts weekly assessments of new employees and adjusts orientation training schedule as needed.
• Assesses competency of preceptors to ensure they have the knowledge and skill to assist with orientation of new employees.
• Coordinates in-service schedule for new instruments, continuing education, etc.

Qualifications
Required:
• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Certification in Sterile Processing and Distribution through the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD)or Certification in Surgical Technology through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
• Experience working as a certified Sterile Reprocessing Technician
Preferred:
• Certified Instrumentation Specialist (CIS)
