The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience. Job Overview:  The Perfusionist maintains adequate circulatory and respiratory support during open heart surgery. This support includes: set up and operation of the extra corporeal circuit, set up and calibration of physiological monitoring as required for the conduct of perfusion, set up and operation of the auto transfusion equipment, calibration and operation of point of care testing equipment, as well as maintaining proper perfusion records.     Qualifications:  Required:  Completions of training at an accredited school of perfusion technology  Must be certified or certified-eligible by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion     Scheduling Requirements:  Per Diem    Essential Functions:    Heart-lung machine pump console or equivalent for open heart surgery  Assures that all components of CPB circuit are in place and functional, to include the heart-lung machine, oxygenator, tubing, reservoirs, prime solutions, safety devices and accessories  Assesses the functional status of the pump console monitoring system, safety features and accessories  Assesses the CPB circuit, Conducts CPB in a professional manner so as to insure the optimal in-patient physiological status and as much as possible the ideal in perfusion care, Monitors patient parameters during CPB  Administers medication under the supervision of the surgeon and anesthesiologist  Controls patient temperature, blood pressure, blood gases, activated clotting time ACT and collects and records pertinent data  Mix medication and cardioplegia solution in a sterile manner  Insure that inventory of supplies is maintained, Performs routine maintenance  Autotransfusion  Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump:  Serve as a resource person to nursing personnel  Assist as needed for IABP insertion intra-operatively  Assume responsibility for IABP function in the OR  Transport patient on IABP to ICU  Prolonged Extracorporeal Support:  Maintain CentriMag, AbioMed, Heart Mate, ECMO or any other assist device  Assure adequate inventory of supplies  Maintain prolonged extracorporeal support to include:  Monitoring ACT, administration of anticoagulants PRN  Monitoring laboratory parameters, circulatory status and assisting nursing personnel, resident physician and attending physician in implementation and maintenance of prolonged support  Assure appropriate supplies for anticipated pump head, oxygenator and/or circuit change-out PRN     Benefits and Perks:     At RWJBarnabas Health, our market-competitive Total Rewards package provides comprehensive benefits and resources to support our employees’ physical, emotional, social, and financial health.        Paid Time Off (PTO)  Medical and Prescription Drug Insurance  Dental and Vision Insurance  Retirement Plans  Short & Long Term Disability  Life & Accidental Death Insurance  Tuition Reimbursement  Health Care/Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts  Wellness Programs  Voluntary Benefits (e.g., Pet Insurance)  Discounts through our partners, such as NJ Devils, NJ PAC, Verizon, and more!     Choosing RWJBarnabas Health!     RWJBarnabas Health is the premier health care destination providing patient-centered, high-quality academic medicine in a compassionate and equitable manner, while delivering a best-in-class work experience to every member of the team.  We honor and appreciate the privilege of creating and sustaining healthier communities, one person and one community at a time.  As the leading academic health system in New Jersey, we advance innovative strategies in high-quality patient care, education, and research to address both the clinical and social determinants of health.   RWJBarnabas Health aims to truly make a unique impact in local communities throughout New Jersey.
