Summary:
The Recreational Therapist I provides evidence-based evaluation, treatment interventions, and educational instruction to patients and caregivers. The clinician provides student shadowing, clinical instruction, and new employee training, and participates in departmental and community continuing education and outreach.
Responsibilities:
1. Provides chart reviews and comprehensive patient assessments per provider orders; develops and determines a plan of care that consists of individualized short and long-term goals and treatment interventions to meet the patient's needs. Meets productivity standards per team guidelines.
2. Implements individualized patient treatment plans by developing and facilitating individual and/or group interventions.
3. Documents and reports patients' response to interventions, re-assesses and evaluates patients' progress towards goals and modifies treatment goals/plan as necessary.
4. Collaborates with the patient, family/caregiver, and treatment team to determine the patient's discharge and transition plan.
5. Consults and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team members regarding the use of recreational therapy interventions to meet individual patient needs.
6. Provides clinical guidance and teaching for students and/or staff under the guidance of the clinical specialist or other subject matter experts.

Education Requirements:
● Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in Therapeutic Recreation or Recreational Therapy, which includes an internship.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
● Licensed as a Recreational Therapist by the North Carolina Board of Recreational Therapy Licensure (NCBRTL).
● Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC).
● BLS within 3 months of hire date.
Professional Experience Requirements:
● No prior experience required.
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:
● Exhibits effective communication and interprofessional skills; requires physical stamina and repetitive movements, including, but not limited to, sitting, standing, kneeling, walking, and squatting during patient interventions while supporting one's weight; can engage in high-level problem-solving to ensure patient safety during mobilization.
