Job Overview:
The primary function of the CT Technologist is to perform quality diagnostic CT scan exams on all patient populations of the hospital. CT exams are done in the CT/Radiology Departments. The CT tech must also be proficient in using PACS and teleradiology and possess good communication skills to effectively interact with physicians, patients and coworkers. This position may also perform other related tasks such as assisting and transporting patients, performing data entry for exam tracking, managing supplies and other departmental duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required:
High School or GED
Completion of an approved Radiology Technology program that meets the requirements set by the ARRT and the NJ State DEP
Preferred:
At least one year of CT and IV contrast administration experience
Certifications and Licenses Required:
NJ State License in Radiography
Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association
NJCXT, ARRT (CT)
Scheduling Requirements:
Shift working, Thursdays 4:00pm-11:30pm
Every other weekend 3:30pm-11pm
Per Diem (PD)
Essential Functions:
Demonstrate working knowledge of exam protocols including prep, positioning, safety, technique, processing and image labeling
Operate CT equipment in a safe and efficient manner
Keep room and equipment clean and in good order
Report all equipment malfunctions to supervisor
Evaluate patients for IV contrast administration by reviewing lab work and by getting an accurate clinical history and review with radiologist
Administer IV contrast in prescribed manner following written physician authorization
Track status of exams to completion using RIS
Demonstrate working knowledge of order entry system and accurately place orders
Respond quickly and appropriately to STAT orders
Demonstrate competence in sending images for stat readings via teleradiology system or PACS
Perform necessary QA and record keeping functions routinely or as assigned
Supervise CT students and perform evaluations when necessary
Produce high quality diagnostic images with strict adherence to the established department exam protocols, policies and procedures
Transport patients from holding area to exam rooms
Transport patients to and/or from ER when necessary
Assist with transport of patient from unit to/from Radiology department
Evaluate patient for exam protocol by review of chart and previous diagnostic exams
Tech shall consult with radiologist to determine correct exam protocol if uncertain
Utilize PACS and enter accurately identified and labeled images of patients
Can retrieve old images and films, when necessary
Effectively communicate exam instructions to patients, answer questions and allay anxiety
Use translation system when needed
Demonstrate good judgment and critical thinking skills when facing varying situations
