Job Objective:

Assists the cardiologists during diagnostic and interventional procedures in the cardiac lab.

Job Description:

Education:

Required: Successful completion of an accredited Cardiovascular Technologist training program upon hire or a minimum of 1,250 hours as a Cardiovascular Assistant at Eisenhower Medical Center, with documented competency validation

Licensure/Certification:

Required: American Heart Association BLS and ACLS; completion of basic arrhythmia course or ECG certification
Preferred: Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) or Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES)

Experience:

Preferred: Experience in cardiac procedural or surgical area

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
  • Identifies patient utilizing two forms of verification following “time out” process.
  • Identifies appropriate procedure to be performed and prepares room and equipment accordingly; operates equipment appropriately and assists with cleanup of the procedure.
  • Attends to the patient’s physical and emotional needs before, during and after procedure to ensure proper patient care and positive examination experience.
  • Performs in the scrub, circulating and monitoring roles in the lab.
  • Scrubs, circulates and monitors complex structural heart procedures (i.e. Watchman, TAVR, Mitraclip), as assigned.
  • Assists Registered Nurses (RN) and physicians in monitoring hemodynamics; operates monitoring equipment.
  • Maintains cleanliness of exam area and equipment.
  • Maintains sterile fields using aseptic technique.
  • Collaborates with RNs and observes interdisciplinary standards of practice in relation to double-checking the delivery of medications to the sterile field.
  • Assists with stocking supplies and utilizes supplies efficiently.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of procedures, techniques and equipment through in-services and conferences.
  • Contributes to the maximum efficiency of the cardiac lab by actively participating in patient flow, room turnaround and procedure preparation.
  • Utilizes clinical and technical expertise to plan, implement and evaluate all aspects of invasive cardiovascular procedures.
  • Obtains, assesses and analyzes hemodynamic waveforms.
  • Prepares, maintains and operates IVUS, FFR, Impella, IABP devices.
  • Properly disposes of all sharps and biohazardous waste.
  • Participates independently in emergency call rotation, if applicable, in assigned area.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
