ResponsibilitiesThe MR technologist must demonstrate an understanding of human cross-sectional anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology and medical terminology. The MR technologist must maintain a high degree of accuracy in patient positioning and image acquisition/formation. He/she must maintain knowledge about magnetic field safety and properly screen all patients and visitors prior to admittance into the MR magnet room. The MR Technologist prepares and administers paramagnetic contrast media in accordance with department, hospital, policy and state and federal regulations, maintains accurate up-to-date records of procedures performed; ensure accurate processing of Radiology requisitions/orders in the Radiology Information System and exercises strict patient confidentiality. The MR Technologist must perform accurate image archival via appropriate local archival media and perform accurate verification and archival of complete MR exams on the GE PACS Centricity workstations. The MR Technologist is also required to operate various post processing/3D workstations. The MR Technologist is the primary liaison between patients, radiologists and other members of the support team. He/she must remain sensitive to physical and emotional needs of the patient through good communication, patient assessment and education, patient monitoring and patient care skills. The MR Technologist must use professional and ethical judgment and critical thinking when performing all duties, and render first aid as needed until further assistance can be obtained to maintain the patient’s health. MR Technologists are responsible for optimal patient care and patient safety, public education and enhanced knowledge and technical competence. The MR Technologist is required to float/flex between various scanning locations staffed by the UCLA Department of Radiology, adhere to the on-call, holiday, weekend and weekly work schedules as prepared by the Lead Technologist or Director and participate in rotating shifts as required. The MR Technologist must follow departmental and hospital policies and procedures, comply with Medical Center health and infection control policies, initiate proper requests for required maintenance or repair of equipment, inspect all devices for damage and ensure they are operating within accepted parameters. He/she must maintain a clean and orderly work area, adhere to departmental work rules and demonstrate a professional attitude by being courteous towards patients, visitors, co-workers, nurses and physicians, comply with the dress code and the attendance and tardiness standards. The MR Technologist must maintain current CRT, ARRT and CPR certifications. Qualifications1. Ability to accept and carry out oral and written instructions accurately. 2. Excellent communication skills both verbal and written with persons of various social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds in order to obtain necessary information accurately and explain clinical procedures and practices. 10. Skill in speaking clearly and distinctly in English, using appropriate vocabulary and grammar. Skill in providing a language interpreter if appropriate. 11. Telephone manners and skills to handle all telephone calls with courtesy and tact. 12. Skill in reading documents written in standard English, including (but not limited to) requisitions, medical documents, policy and procedure manuals, technical procedure manuals, operator manuals, equipment manuals and other written instructions. 13. Knowledge of medical and scientific terminology, with the ability to distinguish between types of medical procedures and diagnoses 14. Knowledge of human anatomy and pathology. 15. Ability to respond efficiently to expressed needs of referring services, physicians and patients. 16. Ability to be courteous, compassionate and professional in any given situation, particularly with patients or visitors who are anxious and agitated. 17. Excellent skill in performing under stress of frequent interruptions and /or distractions. 18. Ability to respond appropriately to emergency situations. 19. Understands the requirement of EMTALA (Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act). 20. Ability to identify and recognize contraindications for exams (Radiology Only) 21. Ability to be flexible with working hours given adequate notice. 22. Ability to rotate to Santa Monica Hospital MR Section and Santa Monica Outpatient MR Section as needed. 23. Demonstrates consistent professional appearance. 24. Basic typing skills to input various data into information systems. 25. Demonstrated knowledge of clinical billing (IDX codes) to ensure appropriate accounting and reimbursement of services rendered. 26. Knowledge of cross-platform computers, application and peripherals, as well as general office equipment. 27. Ability to adapt to advancements and changing technologies.
