Performs standard laboratory tests to obtain data used in diagnosis and treatment of patients. May work in any of the following departments: Blood Bank, Microbiology, Automated, General laboratory, or Specialized as defined by work site. Performs both routine and specialized tests, provides work direction and instruction to students and trainees, non-licensed personnel, and new personnel. Checks tests performed for accuracy, reliability, and validity before results are reported from the laboratory. A higher level of experience, the teaching of students and trainees, and in-depth troubleshooting capabilities distinguishes the CLS II from the CLS I category. CLS II participates in proficiency testing, identification of outliers (non conformance events) with resolution when possible. QUALIFICATIONS: LEVEL OF EDUCATION Minimum: Bachelors Degree CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Minimum: California license as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist. Licensure and experience has been validated and has been deemed qualified under the guidelines of the State of California and CLIA to perform clinical laboratory tests and examinations classified as waived, moderate or high complexity as described under CLIA. Preferred: MT (ASCP) Certification TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS Minimum: Functional experience with common laboratory analyzers and laboratory computer systems, including PC's. JOB PURPOSE Laboratory Assistants are responsible for the front-end, pre-analytical operations in their area of responsibility. They are the front-line/public relations members of the laboratory team and need to maintain appropriate professionalism in a stressful and unpredictable working environment. Under appropriate levels of supervision, as required by regulatory agencies, the Laboratory Assistant II assignments may include: Processing of all types of specimens, operating Laboratory and Hospital Information Systems for data entry and retrieval, providing client services, performing microbiology procedures, and limited operation of automated instrumentation. All job qualifications listed below indicate the minimum level necessary to perform this job proficiently: LEVEL OF EDUCATION Minimum: High School diploma or equivalent. Preferred: College level coursework in anatomy, physiology, chemistry and/or biology. Director Laboratory Testing Operations (Full Time Exempt)

Responsible for the overall leadership, direction and administration of the laboratory testing operations. Supervises the following positions/Departments: Core Lab Technical Department (Chemistry-Hematology, Microbiology, Anatomic Pathology); Specimen Processing,Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital and Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Clinical Laboratories. MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES / SPECIFIC JOB COMPETENCIES Responsible for the overall operation and administration of PDL Testing Laboratory operations, including the employment of personnel who are competent to perform testing services functions promptly, accurately, safely and proficiently and for assuring compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and CH and PDL policies. Ensures that all systems, processes, and procedures employed provide the required quality, responsiveness, and efficiency required for all aspects of pre-analytic, analytic and post-analytic phases of the testing process. Establishes operating practices for cost control, standardization, waste reduction, quality assurance, employee satisfaction, customer service and complete on-time delivery. In collaboration with the Director of Science and Technology, Medical Director, and Director, Quality Systems, provides leadership in identifying quality improvement opportunities and directing quality improvement projects. Ensures that the facility and environmental conditions of all Laboratories are appropriate for the efficient functioning of employees in carrying out their duties and provide a safe environment in which employees are protected from physical, chemical and biological hazards. LEVEL OF EDUCATION BS in science-related field Preferred: Ph.D., Masters or Specialty Certification in Clinical Chemistry, Immunology, Biochemistry, Hematology or Microbiology CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Active CLS certification or board certification by appropriate authoritative TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS Intermediate to advanced computer skills with MS Office programs.
