We are looking for a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant for the Occupational Therapy Department at St. Mary Medical Center.

Location: Apple Valley , CA

Work Schedule: Full time - 80 Biweekly Hours

Shift: 8-hour, Days

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist, directs, administers, and modifies occupational therapy patient care programs upon assignment after evaluation by the Occupational Therapist. Performs administrative duties and participates in department Performance Improvement, Infection Control, Safety, and Education programs as directed. The staff Occupational Assistant may be assigned to orient staff and students and to assume the duties and responsibilities of the supervisor in the absence of that individual. In this position, the Occupational Assistant will have the opportunity to work with both inpatient and outpatient departments.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides patient/client care and assist in assessment in accordance with established practice/departmental guidelines.
  • Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and correct application of clinical techniques, procedures and programs for clinical setting and patient populations served.
  • Summarizes patient performance according to established goals.
  • Collaborates with other personnel/outside agencies, as appropriate, per direction of therapist.
  • Displays appropriate technical knowledge and application of available modalities and other equipment.
  • Provides accurate, complete and timely documentation.
  • Notes are concise and contain meaningful, objective data. Documentation is concise and legible.
  • Records patient treatment and charges on a daily basis. Documents all communication of treatments/goals.
  • Submits all patient reports within established time frames.
  • Adapts conventional therapeutic techniques to meet the needs of patients unable to comprehend verbal commands or voluntarily carry out a regime of therapeutic exercises.
  • Distinguishes between low and high priority activities. Makes effective use of discretionary time. Meets established productivity standards.
  • Assists the therapist with the coordination of subordinate staff, students and volunteers.
  • Establishes post-discharge program plans appropriate for patient/family needs.
  • Adequately trains patient and/or primary care provider in post-discharge management. Validates and documents patient/family understanding of training.
  • Supervises affiliating students according to departmental guidelines.
  • Assist with clerical/clerk duties.
  • The staff therapist will also participate in special department/clinic functions as assigned by the director.

. Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft office, primarily Word and Excel.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient diverse interpersonal skills for interaction with physicians, patients and with varying physical and emotional needs, patient families, other healthcare professionals and outside persons.
  • Adequate motor and cognitive skills to allow routine use of clinical equipment.

Minimum Position Requirements:

Licenses/Certifications:

  • COTA License.
  • Current BCLS.
