Description

The Senior Registered Neurodiagnostic Technologistreflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

This position provides neurological testing and/or monitoring in the following clinical areas and modalities: A. standard, long-term, or ambulatory Electroencephalography (EEG); B. Electromyography (EMG) and Nerve Conduction Studies; C. visual, auditory, or somatosensory Evoked Potentials (EP) or Electronystagmography.

This individual will be expected to take a leadership role in ensuring consistent technical quality of studies, monitoring participation in ongoing quality assurance programs, training new technical staff, coordinating educational activities for staff, and implementing new technology.

Requires strong communication, Patients First perspective, proactive attitude towards problem solving, initiative, and independent decision making skills.

The Senior Registered Neurodiagnostic Technologist works closely with the department Manager, Neurological Testing Center (NTC) Operations Coordinator, NTC Medical Director, and other attending Physicians.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions and How They Are Accomplished

  • Perform all functions as defined by Registered Neurodiagnostic Technologist job description.
  • Serve as a technical resource and expert to NTC technical staff.
  • Facilitate staff understanding of department clinical/technical performance standards and monitor compliance.
  • Coordinate troubleshooting and routine care of equipment.
  • Monitor compliance with all quality assurance programs/projects.
  • Provide training for new Neurodiagnostic Technicians and students.
  • Assist to provide in-service to existing staff as necessary.
  • Serves as instructor to provide ongoing education for registered technicians, students, residents and fellows.
  • Work with NTC Resource Coordinator and/or Manager to implement new policies, procedures and protocols.
  • Coordinate staff during low census.
  • Serve as liaison on daily operations. Requires working closely with NTC Resource Coordinator and/or Manager.
  • Assist with neurodiagnostic research initiatives, including compliance with protocols.
  • Assist in ensuring appropriate supply orders are being placed.
  • Encourage teamwork through positive leadership and communication. Serve as a role model.
  • Provide informal feedback on performance (e.g., Performance Review Process, constructive feedback on the job, etc.).

Patient Care/Age Specific Responsibilities

  • Provide patient with procedure explanation, address questions, and reassure and relax patient (as appropriate), and prepares patients for their procedure. Provide assistance to older adults as necessary through assessment of impairments that affect testing procedures.
  • Provides basic personal hygiene assistance to any patients as necessary.
  • Primarily requires interaction with patients of adult and geriatric age. Interaction with neonates may be required for technicians performing EEG's.

Additional Functions

  • Provide technical or administrative coverage in other areas of NTC as necessary.
  • Participate in departmental in-services, monthly staff meetings, and continuing education
  • Assist in report typing, distribution, filing and other storage duties as assigned.
  • Provide consistent feedback and suggestions for improvement to NTC Resource Coordinator and/or Manager, and be involved in improvement initiatives/projects.
  • Provide written and/or verbal feedback to NTC Operations Coordinator and/or Manager on Neurodiagnostic Technicians and/or student preceptor's performance.

Quality Management Responsibilities:

  • Participates in organizational and departmental quality improvement activities.
  • Communicates customer satisfaction issues to appropriate individuals.
  • Serves as a role model for others in terms of quality of work and self-improvement.
  • Provides ideas and suggestions for process improvements within the department.

Qualifications

Required License/Certification and Regulatory Agency:

  • Registered in at least one (1) discipline (EEG, CLTM, EMG, EP, IONM, Sleep/RPSGT) corresponding with the clinical areas of work for the institution.
    • Registration through the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential technologists (ABRET) for EEG, CLTM, EP, CNIM
    • Registration through the American Association of Electrodiagnostic Technologists (AAET) for EMG
    • Registration through Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists as RPSGT
  • CPR certified in basic cardiac life support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Performance in each of the multiple modalities at the level or superior to a technologist registered in that modality.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years of prior experience in related discipline(s)

Preferred

  • Registered in at least two (2) disciplines (EEG, CLTM, EMG, EP, IONM, Sleep/RPSGT) corresponding with the clinical areas of work for the institution.
    1. Registration through the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential technologists (ABRET) for EEG, CLTM, EP, CNIM
    2. Registration through the American Association of Electrodiagnostic Technologists (AAET) for EMG
    3. Registration through Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists as RPSGT
  • Bachelor’s Degree or additional training in neurophysiology monitoring, business, healthcare, or related areas.
  • Prior work as a supervisor/lead technician.
  • Prior work experience in an academic or tertiary health care center.

OTHER

Management Responsibility:

  • This position does not have management responsibilities.

Internal and External Contacts:

  • Internal: patient care team; physicians, nurses, other hospital and clinic staff. Works closely with the department Manager, NTC Resource Coordinator, NTC Medical Director, and other attending Physicians.
  • External: Communicates regularly with patients, caregivers and families. May also interact with student preceptors from Universities ENDT program and equipment vendors during evaluations of new equipment.
