Job Description

Come work at our brand new ambulatory surgery center in the VCU Short Pump Pavilion. Monday-Friday day shift hours- no holidays, no weekends, no call!

The OR Support Assistant II job supports the Operating Room staff by preparing case carts, maintaining supplies and equipment, and maintaining a safe and functional environment for all age groups.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire: N/A

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment:
AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent

Experience REQUIRED: N/A

Experience PREFERRED:
6 months – 1 year working in an Operating Room environment strongly preferred
Knowledge of surgical instrumentation and supplies preferred.
Organizational skills and ability to multitask.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Education/training REQUIRED:
Completion of state recognized CNA program or Completion of first semester junior year in an accredited BSN program dependent upon school curriculum.
VCU/MCV BSN students: completion of sophomore year, Nursing 201, 202, 261.
Accredited Associate Degree and Diploma programs: completion of first year or a minimum of two semesters of basic nursing courses.
Specialty areas e.g. pediatrics, women`s health, psychiatry may require completion of a clinical rotation in that area; or Completion of EMT program

Education/training PREFERRED: N/A

Independent action(s) required:
Functions under direction of a licensed independent practitioner, manager and/or RN. in providing patient care, emotional support, and problem solving; all in accordance with hospital, nursing and unit policy/procedure.
Requires prior approval or guidance from supervisor: time/schedule changes; legal issues; directed care whichdeviates from standard; and identify educational resources to meet developmental needs.
Job Duties may include the handling, transportation, access to and/or contact with medications and related supplies.

Additional position requirements:
OR Support Assistants work all three shifts, weekends and holidays. Individual shift rotation and schedules will beestablished with your specific Nurse Manager/Practice Manager.
Schedules, including requirements of shiftrotations and hours of work may be adjusted as necessary to meet unit requirements and/or as needed.
