We are looking for a Medical Assistant for the LA Satellite Kidney Transplant Center at St. Joseph Hospital Orange.

Location: Orange, CA

Work Schedule: Full time - 80 Biweekly Hours

Shift: 8-hour, Days

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Department Manager and Charge Nurse, the Medical Assistant will have both front and back office duties. The Department Manager will supervise front office tasks and responsibilities and the Charge Nurse will supervise Medical Assistant tasks and responsibilities.

Essential Functions:

  • Prepares Patient Chart:
  • Obtains medical records and prepare patient's chart before patient visit.
  • Distribute appropriate paperwork; checks for completion of forms.
  • Begin the medication refill list and distribution process.
  • Check-in Process: Check-in patients for their appointment; Update patient information in computer.
  • Clinic visit Process:
  • Escort patient to exam room; take accurate vital signs and chart vitals.
  • Prepares exam room and patient appropriately for visit.
  • Begin doctor orders, assist with procedures, clean and restock exam room.
  • Track diagnostic imaging studies or laboratory test and obtain test results.
  • Responsible for patient check-out process:
  • Review the encounter form for accuracy.
  • Complete all referral paperwork (confirm current insurance, accurate address and phone number, diagnosis ICD-10, etc.).
  • Assist with new and follow-up patient appointments.
  • Give the patient appropriate instructions, within the scope of practice.
  • General Clinic Duties:
  • Answer telephone.
  • File and scan paperwork; document in the electronic medical records.
  • Sorts and distributes faxes.
  • Begin instrument decontamination after procedures.
  • Assists in filling out patient letters for leaves of absence.
  • Track and obtain imaging studies and laboratory test results.
  • Front Desk Process:
  • Answers phone.
  • Schedules appointment or procedures.
  • Assists with other Front Office duties.
  • Other Duties:
  • Complete "additional" assigned task/ responsibilities in a timely manner.
  • Provides coverage for Front Office/ Back Office staff as needed.


  • Ability to interact with patients, co-workers and healthcare providers in a courteous, service oriented manner.
  • Cooperation and flexibility when responding to varying and unpredictable situations.
  • Basic computer skills; advanced computer skills preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish; ability to read, write, speak and understand fluently.

Minimum Position Requirements:

Licenses/Certifications: Current BLS Certification.

Preferred Position Qualifications:


  • 1 year experience as a Medical Assistant in a community clinic setting.
  • 1 year experience in community clinic billing/coding.

Licenses/Certifications: Medical Assistant Certificate.
