Swedish is callin for a Referral Coordinator- Clinic $1,500 Sign-On Bonus (1.0 FTE, Day shift) to work in Specialty Clinic Support at Swedish Edmonds in Edmonds, WA.

At Swedish, we are passionate about healthcare for our caregivers. Full-time caregivers (0.75-1.0 FTE) who earn less than $60,000 per year will be offered the Swedish PPO Medical Plan with a $0 premium cost, including dependent coverage.

Capture defined referral information from regional healthcare providers to specialists. Verify eligibility and benefits for patients requiring prior authorization for procedures, diagnostics and medications.

In this position you will:

  • Maintain complete and accurate computer files on defined referrals in the computer system. Timeliness of referral processing meets NCQA Guidelines.
  • Implement systems and provide service to reduce provider time spent on referral process, thus increasing time available for direct patient care.
  • Obtain authorization from insurance companies in a timely manner for patient visits or procedures.
  • Facilitate referrals to Swedish Providers and other specialists.
  • Educate patients to be accountable for their benefit coverage and choosing a contracted specialist.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of insurance plans and educate providers and staff. Understand Swedish contracts with health plans and the patient referral process.


Required qualifications:

  • H.S. Diploma or GED Or equivalent educ/experience
  • Completion of coding and medical terminology course Or equivalent educ/experience
  • 1 year Work experience in and outpatient clinic setting or medical billing office
  • 6 months Experience managing referrals and prior authorizations in an EPIC environment
  • Background in computer data input utilizing office practice management software, Word and/or Access.
