Responsibilities

Position Summary: The lab Clerk (histology) LCH will perform duties in the histology and cytology sections of the Lab to include, but not limited, accessioning specimens, equipment and reagent management, registering specimens, preparing mail-outs, cytology specimen preparation, picking-up specimens from the Operating Room, Main Lab or other locations, filing and retrieving slides/blocks, and assisting pathologists and pathology assistants as necessary. This summary includes the essential function of the position; there may be other job-related instructions as requested by the supervisors and others duties as assigned all requiring exemplary attention to detail and core customer service skills.

Qualifications

Experience:

Previous experience as a histology assistant preferred; on the job training will be provided.

Education and Certification:
High School Diploma required

Special Skills:
Demonstrated excellence in core value customer service skills required
Strong PC skills required
Precise attention to details and clerical accuracy required

Other:

- Lab Informatics System or Meditech experience preferred.

- Positive criminal and motor vehicle background checks results indicating a strong level of community responsibility required. - Hazardous Chemical Exposure experience and/or training preferred (formalin, xylene)

Physical Requirements: Light-Medium Physical Agility Test Rating:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently (activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) required to stand, sit, and walk; frequently to use hands, fingers; and frequently to talk or hear. The employee must exert 15 to 20 pounds of force occasionally (activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time), and/or 5 to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 5 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform successfully the essential functions of this job and will be tested by post offer PAT.
