We are looking for an Echocardiogram Technologist for the Electrocardiology Department at St. Joseph Hospital Orange.

Location: Orange, CA

Work Schedule: On Call/ Per Diem

Shift: 8-hour, Days

Job Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Heart & Vascular Services Manager, the echocardiography technologist performs routine and emergent diagnostic echocardiography on adult and geriatric patients. Demonstrates competency in performing 2D echocardiography with Doppler, stress echocardiography with and without contrast, dobutamine stress echocardiography. The echocardiography technologist assists physicians in the performance of transesophageal echocardiography, intra-operative echocardiography and echo guided pericardiocentesis. The technologists also perform any job related functions (clerical, transportation, training and cleaning), as needed to provide optimal care.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs high quality and timely echocardiographic studies according to department protocols. Demonstrates competence in using cardiac ultrasound. Performs studies on adult and geriatric populations. Operates stress testing systems, EKG equipment, blood pressure equipment and EKG data management system.
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform all modalities of cardiac testing including EKG's and stress testing.
  • Arranges scheduling of inpatient stress echos, dobutamine stress echos and transesophageal echos.
  • Enters and completes orders. Ensures accurate charging for all procedures.
  • Consistently demonstrates compliance with hospital and department policies and procedures.
  • Assists with compilation of the policy and procedures.
  • Participates in department meetings, quality control, performance improvement activities and patient satisfaction initiatives.
  • Assists with orientation and cross training of students and employees as needed, including proctoring performance, to ensure quality patient care and completion of training documentation.
  • Provides education to patients, family and medical staff.

Skills:

  • Competent clinician, provides care in a skilled and effective manner, utilizing appropriate technical and decision making skills.
  • Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal skills with patients, patients' families, and ancillary departments.
  • Good math skills and basic computer data entry skills.
  • Basic clinical skills of unit specific type patients.
  • Analytical skills necessary in order to organize and prepare nursing care plans, implement effective nursing care, and develop solutions to patient care problems.
  • Ability to coordinate and delegate team activities.
  • Effective skills in communication, problem solving, interpersonal relationships, and prioritization.
  • Flexibility to adapt to new and changing situations.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish or English/Vietnamese.

Minimum Position Requirements:

Education: Coursework/Training - Graduate of an accredited cardiovascular ultrasound program.

Licenses/Certifications: BLS certification.

Preferred Position Qualifications:

Education: Associate's Degree in Cardiovascular Technology, or Bachelor's Degree in Cardiovascular Technology.

Experience: Experience in echocardiography.

Licenses/Certifications: RDCS or RDCS eligible.
