Swedish Medical Center is looking for a Mammography Technologist (0.0 FTE, Variable) to work in Medical Imaging at Swedish Mill Creek in Mill Everett, WA.

This position is required to perform a variety of radiological technical procedures specific to the diagnosis and treatment of breast disease in a high volume outpatient setting. Responsible for producing high quality radiographic images while interacting with all patients in a caring and comforting manner. Jointly responsible for performing required quality control activities as mandated by the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) and the FDA. Dependant on location, may be required to utilize general radiography skills to perform diagnostic radiology exams.

In this position you will:

  • Interacts with patient, explaining procedure thoroughly and answering any questions as appropriate. Models excellence in professional radiologic practice at all times while also functioning as a patient advocate.
  • Accurately produces mammographic images per protocol, making appropriate technical adjustments for body size and habitus, age, and past medical history. Analyzes technical quality of films and repeats when appropriate.
  • In conjunction with the radiologist, performs all departmental special procedures including (but not limited to) ultrasound guided aspirations and cores, stereotactic core biopsy, galactography, and needle localizations.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and application of radiation safety principles for both patients and self. Provides radiation protection when appropriate.
  • Participates in the departmental Quality Control as required.
  • Keeps work area neat, orderly and well stocked with the necessary supplies. Cleans equipment and rooms after each use, in accordance with established procedures.
  • Attends and participates in the marketing, promotional and educational activities of Swedish and the Breast Imaging Program, serving as a proponent of such.
  • Performs related support duties in an accurate and timely manner, including but not limited to, contacting and scheduling recall patients, completing required computerized exam data entry, completion of exam worksheets, film room activities.
  • Demonstrates a good understanding of the overall departmental operation, following departmental policies and procedures.
  • Is cooperative, respectful and helpful to all other in the workplace (co-workers, manager and physicians) in support of the delivery of patient care and services. Conducts appropriate discussions regarding operational, system and personnel issues with leadership of service.
  • Demonstrates initiative to learn new or evolving procedures and practices within the breast imaging service.
  • Accepts instruction, guidance and corrections in a positive manner.
  • Performs duties and functions appropriate to, and confines interactions (either verbal or written) with patients or other health care professionals, within the scope of practice of a mammography technologist.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by department leadership. Dependant on location, this may include activities related to the performance of general diagnostic radiography.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Successful completion of a formal radiologic technology training program, which meets the requirements for registry by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Dependant on location, prior general radiography experience may be required.
  • At the time of hire must have Radiologic Technologist registry by ARRT.
  • Washington State Certified Radiologic Technologist – Diagnostic license required.
  • If not certified in mammography, candidate will be required to seek and pass advanced certification within 1 year of employment.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers required at time of hire from American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network (MTN).

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • 2 years of full-time mammography experience.
  • Current ARRT advanced certification in mammography preferred.

Swedish/Mill Creek has 86,000 square feet of space on three above-ground levels and a partial basement. The E.D. – which is open and staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week – features 18 emergency exam rooms and six additional observation beds. It shares the first floor with a complete diagnostic imaging center with X-ray, mammography, ultrasound, CT scan and MRI, which is staffed by partners from Seattle Radiology. A full laboratory and offices for primary- and specialty-care providers are on floors two and three.
