Job Description

We are looking for a Interventional Imaging Specialist for the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at St. Mary Medical Center.

Location: Apple Valley, CA

Work Schedule: Full time - 80 Biweekly Hours

Shift: 10-hour, Days (Variable)

Job Summary:

Under general supervision, the interventional imaging specialist assists Radiologists, cardiologists and vascular surgeons in the performance of interventional, angiographic, and therapeutic procedures for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients by imaging, or scrub assisting for these physicians while maintaining a safe quality patient environment. Also operates conventional, fluoroscopic or portable radiology equipment to obtain radiographs according to physician specifications.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs various Radiographic, diagnostic and interventional cardiac special procedures that produce radiographic images of optimum diagnostic quality. Selects appropriate film/cassette, radiographic technique, positioning of patient and equipment to use for procedure.
  • Identifies anatomical orientation by using correct markers and technologist initials.
  • Ensures proper identification (patient and date) on all images and records pertinent data on Radiologic requisition at all times.
  • Reviews each examination for technical accuracy to ensure the best possible images for interpretation.
  • Meets the physical and mental needs of the patient during examinations (patient education, minimize waiting time, safety, etc.).
  • Understands age specific considerations, practices appropriate patient care and manage and prioritize in a crisis situation.
  • Operates all Imaging Services radiographic equipment in a safe manner and provides proper radiation protection.
  • Documents patient information ensuring the quality of patient care and proper examination documentation and charges in the computer system. Reports and provides verbal notification regarding incomplete and incorrect examinations to ensure the proper patient charge and continuity of patient care.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of basic ECG interpretation, hemodynamic monitoring and emergency protocols.
  • Notifies department manager and/or supervisor of equipment malfunction/needed repair.
  • Assists other modalities as needed to improve productivity.
  • Works all shifts as assigned including weekends and night call when necessary.
  • Able to independently scrub and assist all cases in either Interventional Radiology or cardiology including competency in all necessary tools required in all procedures.
  • Ensures that Imaging Services procedures are documented and charge requests are complete and prepared for data input.
  • Proficiently performs biopsies and aspirations.
  • Prepares and sets up sterile trays for procedures.
  • Continually uses date stamps and lead markers on all images in PACS and CVPACS System.
  • Keep all license current, i.e. MQSA, FDA, Radiologist, and technologist. Maintains all documentation requirements of the mammography quality standards of 1997 (MQSA) and accreditation standards. Performs all required MSQA quality control tests. Consistently performs screening and diagnostic mammograms at optimum levels with a repeat rate of 2-5% as mandated by MQSA. Verified by monthly repeat analysis.

Minimum Position Requirements:

Education: Coursework/Training - Completion of Radiologic Technologist program.

Experience: 2 years experience as a Radiology Technologist in a hospital environment.
