Job Description

We are looking for a Ultrasound Technologist for the Ultrasound Department at Queen of the Valley Medical Center.

Location: Napa, CA

Work Schedule: On Call / Per Diem

Shift: 8-hour, Days

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Radiologist/Cardiologist and Supervisor, Sonography and with latitude for independent judgment, performs all the professional duties involved in the utilization of high frequency sound waves for ultrasonic diagnosis at the technical level. Acts in compliance with Federal, State, and Joint Commission standards. Produces and evaluates images and related data to be used by physicians to render medical diagnosis. Performs related clerical tasks and assumes responsibility for coordinating exams performed. At this intermediate level, knows and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures. Performs work that is varied and somewhat difficult in character utilizing appropriate technical and decision making skills. Performs duties under general supervision.

Essential Functions:

  • Analyzes patient’s general body type, physical condition, and suspected pathology to select transducers and adjust equipment for the production of prescribed images. Adheres to Medical Center’s patient safety policies.
  • Obtains pertinent patient history, reviews physician orders, and records all pertinent information. Evaluates image quality and communicates findings to the appropriate physician. Handles film jacket preparation for Radiologist's dictation, including review of prior studies and printing of reports.
  • Performs routine quality control, troubleshoots malfunctions, and arranges for equipment service as necessary.
  • Participates in departmental quality assurance.
  • Provides appropriate education for patients, families, and other healthcare providers.
  • Participates in the supervision and evaluation of students.
  • Adheres to Medical Center customer service standards.
  • Anticipates patient and physician procedural needs.
  • Has access to and administers and/or handles medications according to this position’s license or certification standards and Medical Center policy

Minimum Position Requirements:

Education: H.S. Diploma or GED


  • ARDMS (American Registry of Diagnostic Sonographer) eligible and ARDMS registered in one or more diagnostic specialties within 2 years of hire: Abdominal, orOB, or Echo.
  • Current Healthcare Provider BLS certification - recognized by American Heart Association.

Preferred Position Qualifications:

Experience: 1 year experience in Sonography or a related Imaging field.
