Job Description


Swedish Medical Group is looking for a Financial Counselor (1.0 FTE, Day Shift) to work in Central Business Services at Swedish Medical Group in Seattle, WA.

Accountable for daily operational tasks associated with charge entry; edit work queues and research rejected claims due to registration or charge entry errors. Follow up on insurance claims >45 days old. Work with clinic staff to ensure patient registration is accurate. Contact patients over the phone or in person regarding questions on billing or insurance. Act as billing resource for clinic staff.

In this position you will:

  • Serve as integral part of the physician’s office Care Team; act as key billing contact for the physicians, PSR’s, patients, insurance and central business services.
  • Contact patients over the phone regarding their questions on billing and insurance coverage.
  • Researching rejected claims due to registration or charge entry errors.
  • Complete online work queues identifying aged insurance claims for which payment is outstanding.
  • Re-submit claims to government agencies, medical service bureaus and insurance companies ensuring that accounts are billed appropriately by auditing charges to ensure accurate procedure codes, billing data, and patient information submitted.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • H.S. Diploma or GED
  • Three (3) yearss related work experience in a health care environment

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Professional Coding Certification
