Job Description

We are looking for a Nuclear Medicine Technologist I - United Steelworkers for the Nuclear Medicine Department at St. Mary Medical Center.

Location: Apple Valley, CA

Work Schedule: On call/Per diem

Shift: 10 hour, Days (Variable)

Job Summary:

Performs duties related to radionuclide imaging, use and monitoring of radionuclides, clerical, film processing and patient care in Nuclear Medicine.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs all radionuclide procedures, meeting determined standards of quality.
  • Positions and transfers patients, providing immobilization devices as required. Transports patients.
  • Provides radiation protection to self and patient.
  • Assists the physician in the preparation and administration of radionuclides to the patient.
  • Instructs nuclear medicine or nursing personnel when required.
  • Maintains practice of sterile techniques in the handling of radioactive materials and prevents cross-contamination.
  • Maintains all records relative to the nuclear medicine service and patients.
  • Arranges and performs calibration, maintenance and radionuclide assay operations.
  • Develops new techniques and procedures when requested or required.
  • Provides input to Imaging Services Supervisor for annual budget.
  • Maintains inventory and orders supplies for nuclear medicine.
  • Ensures that nuclear medicine procedures are documented and charge tickets complete and prepared for data input. All images are stored in PACS.
  • Coordinates nuclear medicine with other departments, cooperating with medical center and department staff.
  • Coordinates brachytherapy implant program with nursing and physicians.
  • Works all shifts as assigned including weekends and night call when necessary.

Skills :

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Sound understanding of anatomical and physiology so that independent modification of technical factors may produce optimum results with minimum radiation exposure to patients and staff.

Minimum Position Qualifications:

Education :

  • H.S. Diploma or GED or equivalent educ/experience
  • Coursework/Training - Appropriate college courses.


  • Current California Nuclear Medicine Technologist license.
  • Current BLS for Healthcare Provider.

Preferred Position Qualifications:

Experience : 1 year of experience in nuclear medicine.
