Location: Eureka, CA

Work Schedule: Full Time - 80 Biweekly Hours

Shift: 8-hour, Evenings

Job Summary:

Under the direction of nursing management, the Anesthesia Tech employs intellectual, interpersonal and technical skills to assist the Anesthesiologists. Duties include preparation and management of anesthesia machines, provision and maintenance of anesthesia supplies to ensure optimum safety and quality patient care for the infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient.

Essential Functions:

  • Checks anesthesia machines to ensure accurate full function:
  • All anesthesia machines are checked including OB, backup machines and those in full service for all functions.
  • Cleans anesthesia machines on a daily basis including terminal disinfecting on a routine basis:
  • Anesthesia machines are cleaned according to clinical standards.
  • Stocks anesthesia machines and anesthesia carts daily:
  • Orders and maintains an adequate supply of stock and non-stock anesthesia supplies for the OR and OB C-Section rooms on a regular basis.
  • Demonstrates skills necessary to act as liaison between physicians and vendors with reporting duties to department director.
  • Maintains anesthesia-related equipment all anesthetizing areas:
  • Anesthesia equipment will be maintained clean and available for use in a timely manner, placed in the appropriate OR suite according to Anesthesiologist and preference.
  • Performs patient transport duties according to clinical standard utilizing safety measures and age appropriate criteria.
  • Provides assistance with induction of anesthesia for the infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient under the direct supervision of the Anesthesiologist:
  • Utilizes aseptic technique practices.
  • Utilizes safety techniques for positioning patient.
  • QUALITY IMPROVEMENT
  • Resource Utilization: Ensures that appropriate supplies and equipment are available, accounted for and used in a cost-effective manner.
  • Safety:
  • Helps to provide a clean, comfortable environment for customers and others by taking appropriate safety precautions:
  • Practices personal safety standards.
  • Follows guidelines for infection control in the surgical setting.
  • Maintains equipment, initiates appropriate measures for repair or replacement of faulty equipment.
  • Identifies and takes appropriate action and responds to urgent situations effectively.
  • Productivity:
  • Organizes, prioritizes and completes activities and assignments in an efficient manner.
  • Demonstrates initiative in assisting others and performing other duties based on skill level and training orientation.
  • Uses all work time productively in work-related activities.
  • Quality Improvement Program: Participates in department problem solving, suggests improvements, and facilitates change.

Skills:

  • Ability to ensure patient confidence and comfort.
  • Efficiently communicates with physicians, nursing staff, patients and other employees both in person and by telephone.
  • Reads and comprehends written instructions, able to interpret medical orders, correspondence, memorandums and medical records.
  • Applies deductive and common sense reasoning ability to problem solving

Minimum Position Requirements:

Education: H.S. Diploma or GED

Licenses/Certifications: Current CPR certification is required for the transportation role.

Preferred Position Qualifications:

Experience: Experience in the healthcare setting.
