Job Description

We are looking for a Nuclear Medicine Technologist for the Radiology Nuclear Medicine Outpatient Department at St. Joseph Hospital Orange.

Location Orange, CA

Work Schedule: On Call/ Per Diem

Shift: 8-hour, Days

Job Summary:

Under general supervision of the Supervisor, and guidance of the Lead Technologist, the Nuclear Medicine Technologist will perform all necessary duties and functions related to: (1) planning, organizing and performing diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures and (2) fulfill all duties required by the department quality assurance, Federal, State and JCAHO Standards.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform all adult and pediatric procedures in accordance with department guidelines including the introduction of IV's for the administration of radiopharmaceuticals (infant to older adult).
  • Performs nuclear medicine camera QC timely and with data analysis. Taking appropriate action when thresholds are not met.
  • Performs timely dose calibrator QC (daily, monthly, quarterly and annual). Taking appropriate action when thresholds are not met.
  • Performs department QC monitoring (daily, weekly and monthly). Taking appropriate action when thresholds are not met.
  • Accurately schedules nuclear medicine and DEXA procedures.
  • Orders supplies including radiopharmaceuticals to maintain nuclear medicine operations.
  • Maintains awareness of equipment status and addresses any malfunctions and all radiation safety issues to the department supervisor as soon as they are evident. Initiating service calls to the Biomedical Engineering Department.
  • Delivers all processed procedures for dictation to the nuclear medicine radiologist in a timely manner.
  • Verifies all procedures and assures all paperwork is accurate prior to scan dictation.
  • Assures appropriate scan performance by procedure verification with diagnosis and prescription.

Skills:

  • Computer literacy in Window applications.
  • Mathematical calculation skills (simple & complex).
  • Nuclear medicine QC skills.
  • Typing skills.
  • Medical terminology.
  • Skills in intravenous administration of radiopharmaceuticals.

Minimum Position Requirements:

Education :

  • H.S. Diploma or GED
  • Coursework/Training Graduate of Nuclear Medicine training program.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • CTNM (California State Licensure)
  • CPR (American Heart Association).

Preferred Position Qualifications:

Experience:

  • 1 year experience working with cameras/computers of the same manufacturer as those at St. Joseph hospital.
  • Infant through older adult nuclear medicine procedure experience.
  • Intravenous administration experience with pediatric patients.

Licenses/Certifications: ARRT (N)-Nuclear Medicine or NMTCB.
